"In a Persian Gardner," under the auspices of the Matinee Musicale at the First Congregational church on next Monday night, January 2Dtb, ad mission 50 cents. Mrs. Laurence Weakley will bo heard here in the "Persian Garden," will wear the gown in which sho was presented to Queen Victoria last summer. Will ladies who go to the "Persian Garden'' on Monday evening pleaBe prepare to remove their hats? The Lincoln Book club met with Mrs. J. A. Buckstaff on Tuesday morning. Mrs. K. . Moore was elected president for the current year and Mrs. R. H. Oakley vice president. Lincoln Fortu'ghtly met with Mrs. A. W. Field on Tuesday when Mrs. A C. Ricketts presented an able and scholarly review of Count Leo Tolstoi. Mrs. Andrew Durland of Norfolk is visiting Mrs. L. C. Richards. Mrs. Mitchell entertained informally for Mrs. Deutsch of Beatrice, on Tues day evening. Mr. and Mrs. Warner and Mr. and Mrs. Seacrest entertained the M. M. M. whist club very pleasantly on Friday evening. The Knights of Pythias entertained the Pythian Sisterhood on Wednesday evening. Mr. ard Mrs. John Dorgan enter tained informally for Mis. Rollins on Monday night. The Beta Theta Pi fraternity gave a small dancing party on last Saturday night at their rooms on Tenth and O streets. Mr. and Mrs. Crittenden gave an in formal party on Wednesday evening. Euchre was plajed the fore part of the evening and music occupied the latter half. Tho Phi Kappi Poi fraternity gave a dancing paity at their chapter house on Friday evening and will entertain again this evening. Mr. F. C. Fisk who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Burgess, returned to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Wednesday. The Ladies of the board of the Young Woman's Christian Association gave a banquet in the association rooms on lueBday evening. Cropsey of Fair- bury, announce the engagement ot their daughter Cora, to Mr. Banjiman Mc Lucas of Fairbury. Mr. Downie D. Muir left Lincoln en Thursday for New York where he will ergage in business. Mrs. Muir and Wilson Muir will remain in Lincoln un til the end of the school semester when they will join the head ot the family in New York. Mr. Muir's business ability and integrity insure a brilliant future. His departure is regretted by all those, acd they are many, who have had an occasion to rely upon Mr. Muir's ad vice or judgment, but. the best wishes of all these and more follow him. Miss Flo'ence Parks entertained tbe J. O. C. club on Friday evening. A very pleasant evening was spent in play ing hearts and dancing. Those present were: Misses Caebeer, Dovey, Whit comb, Bignell, Broady, Straumbaugh, Cornell, States, Pdlmer, Mooie, Dovey, Trickey and Whitcomb. Messrs. Kim ball, Sawyer, Whedon, Bentley, Moore, Sherdeman, Hur'z, Hall, Hubbard. Jacobs, States, Deering, Paiks ai.d Foster. The Literary Societies of the State university gave a joint entertainment at Walsh hall ou Friday night. A progressive hearts party was given by the Sigma Alpha Epeilon fraternity on Friday evening at their chapter house. Mr. and Mrs. Edm Eton chap eroned the party. .Mr. C. Y. Smith went to Grand Isl and on Friday to attend a whist tourn ment. Mrs. G. M. Bartlett finds the climate of San Antonio very beneficial ard writes that her health is greatly im proved. Mrp.Seitz of Philadelphia is visiting Mrs. Seacrest. Mrs. I. N. Baker gave a tea on Thurs day in honor of Mrs. McClintock of To peka, Kansas. Mrs. Noble will give a thimble party this afternoon. The L. A. kensington will meet with Mrs. Jones on Monday afternoon. Died Mr. Michael Noonan, of a lin gering illness, Sunday morning. He left a widow and two daughters. Died Mr. Kurt H. Will at his home Eleventh and Saratoga avenue, Thurs day morning, at half past two. Died Mrs. H. D. Leonard, Thursday at her home, 1901 Ilolmee street.
