school of music, will be presented that

THE FUNKE.
Ferris comedians will play an engage
ment of one week at the Funke opera
house, commencing Monday, January 8.
Manager Zehrung has what he choosrs
to term a "repertoire treat" to offer the
Funke patrons in tLo coming Ferris'
Comedians' engagement. The popular
company is remembered as the one
which gave po much satisfaction last
seaEon. The repertoire next week em
braces some of the latest eas'ern sue
cesses. Eiegant costumes, beautiful
scenery and special properties are
carried, that each play may be staged
and dressed in metropolitan form.
Speaking of Ferris' Comedians, the St.
Joseph News said: "Never before was
the Lyceum theater unable to accommo
date the patrons until last evening. The
magnet was Ferris' Comedians, and they
surely drew the people out. Dick Ferris
may well be called the 'Frohman of
repertoire,' for he presented one of the
best companies ever seen in St. Joseph.
The specialties introduced between the
acts of the drama were far superior to
those offered by the Orpheum company
last week." Mr. Ferris' company con
tains twenty acting members' many of
whom have visited our city before with
high priced attractions. The opening
play will be "My Jim," Ferdinand Gra
ham's late comedy-drama. Monday
night ladies will be admitted free if ac-

Edwin Mayo will be the attraction on
January 10th at the Oliver, presenting
the famous play of "Padd'n'head Wil
son," the great Thumbmark play.
"Every human being carries with him,
from the cradle to the grave, certain
physical marks by which he can be iden
tified, and which never change; these
marks are his signature, with its lines
and curves and flourishes. But where
are tbey you ask? They are there,
where nature has placed them, and for
ever unchangeable; there, on the ball of
the thumb." This scientific fact, the
basis of Mark Twain's story, is also the
foundation of the Bjrtillon system of
criminal identification, which ie now in
U3e in every large city in the United
States and Europe, and has led to the
capture and conviction of more law
breakers than any other device known
to the minions of the law.
