The entertainment given on Wednes day night by local talent under the di rection of Charles B. Kendall was very well presented. The words of Longfel low's "Evangeline' were read from a stage box by Mr. Kendall, who came to Lincoln to direct the presentation of the . poem The tableaux and pantonine by which the lines were illustrated bad all the simplicity and charm of the voire. Mils Mae Burr was Evangeline and 1 have heard many compliments upon her performance. The cast included Fred Cooley, Arthur Walsh, August Hugenow and Mr. Seamark. Hymns were sung behind tbe ecenes by a quartette com posed of Misses Maude Oakley, Henri etta Hollowbush and Messrs Tuttle and Williams. Miss Oakley also rendered a beautiful solo in the deathbed scene. The entertainment was 'given for St. Luke's Episcopal church. The ladies of the Congregational church gave a very pleasant reception in the church parlors on Wednesday after aoon. Mrs. W. B. Ogden and Mrs. B. F. Bailey were directly responsible for the good program and chocolate served the callers. Miss Kingsley was the chair nan of tbe literary overture and Mrs. Bowes led tbe discussion on the club woman in the church and Mies Kingsley closed with a few practical words on the church's need of club women and the club women's need of tbe church. The social life of this church is stimulated by the presence of Mrs. Mann, the pas tor's wife, whose social gifts are supple menting Mr. Mann's efforts in uniting the members of a church which baa suf fered somewhat from lack of interest Ob Wednesday evening the members el the B. B. card club enjoyed a bowling party. Mrs. S. Weasel and Mr. Blum were the victorious players. Tboce present were Messrs. and Mesdames L. J. Heraog, Speier, Wessel, Ksensk , and C. Laws gave a tea on Wednes day evening for her niece, Mrs. James, ef Richland Center, Wisconsin. Those eajoyisg Mrs. Laws' hospitality were Mrs. James, Mrs. J. C. Kier, Mrs. B. R. Cowdery. Mrs. M. B.
