Mr. Roland Reed

Roland Reed will present for the first
time here at the Oliver theatre on Mon
day evening, October 3lBt, a new comedy
by Madame Lucette Ryley called "The
Voyagers.' The scenes of the play are
laid in San Francisco and Honolulu.

THE THEATRE
It is was a pity that the storm of Mon
day night prevented so many of Lin
coln's music lovers from attending the
concert given at the Oliver by Miss
Louise Brehany and her company for
the program was both interesting and
enjoyable. Mr. Sauvlet, the pianist,
was more technical than musical in his
performance. His skill in the manipu
lation of the keys is quite remarkable,
but there is lack of the spirit. His ac
companiments were well played except
that in some instances the piano was too
strong for the voices. Miss Pringle, the
violinist, is a talented young girl who
makes the mistake of resorting to tricks
and maneuvring to capture her audi
ence; she won an encore and responded
by playing the Intermezzo' from Cava
leria Rusticana. Mr. Dethlefs has many
friends in L ncoln who are always glad
of an opportunity to hear him sing. On
this occasion he was evidently em
harassed and his stage presence was not
pleasing, but his voice is good, very
good, and bis vocal efforts were thor
oughly appreciated and the "Son of the
Desert," which he sang as an encore,
was given with power and feeling. Miss
Brehany was a plewant surprise to those
who had not heard her. She is pretty,
sweet and modest in appearance, is the
possessor of a pure full voice which
easily carried to the farthest corner of
the room. She has it well under con
trol. Her Aria from U'Guarny so pleas
ed the audience that she was obliged to
respond to a double encore. Miss Jessie
Waters sang the well known "BeL Bag
gk" so pleasingly that she was recalled
aad sang "The Summer Girl.' The
tenor, Mr. Abcill, gave one a tight feel
is in the throat caused doubtlees by
the apparent effort on his part to pro
duce a big tone when his vosal organs
are capable only of something leas. He
waa more pleasing in the act from Mar
tha than in the duet with Mr. Dethlefs.
One act from an opera is never satisfying
aad I wonder why all companies who
want to give an operatic part choose this
particular thing from Martha; however,
Lincoln haa had a dearth of opera and
the aadieace enjoyed this treat.
The pleasure of doing good is an ex
penditure that will bring its own reward,
for what pleasure can be greater than to
know that somewhere a ray of sunshine
has been flashed into a sad, sorrowing
heart? That is the mission thafO'e
Oteson' is performing this season,
throwing search light flashes of wit and
humor as an antidote for the blues, with
the reealt that it fills theatres every
where with audiences loud in praises of
the sumptuous surroundings given the
mrivaL The comedy has never been in
terpreted by as clever a company as
sow, and the specialties are exception
ally meritorious. "Ole" will welcome
old and new friends at the Oliver Thea
t re aext Friday evening, November 4th.

close a certain mortgage executed by the
defendants, Alice R. Pearce and Frank
Pearce, to the Lombard Investment
Company and as.igoed to plaintiff, jpon
the following described rial estate, own
ed by them, situated in the county of
Lancaster, snd state of Nebraska, to wit:
Lot number four (4), in blopk number
cine (9), in Sunnyside Addition to the
city of Lincoln, east of the Sixth princi
pal meridian, to secure the pajment of a
certain promissory note, with coupons
attached, dated September 20, 1888, for
the sum of $800.00, and due and payable
on the 1st day oc October, 1893; lhat
there is now due upon paid note and
mortgage the sum of $800.00. with inter
est from October 1,1897, and the further
sum of $26.30 with interest from Sep
tember 12, 1898, for taxes, and the furth
er sum of $3.00 with interest at 10 per
cent from June 25, 1893, for insurance;
for which sums, with interest from this
date, plaint-ff prays for a decree that de
fendants be required to pay the same,
or that said premises may be sold to
satisfy tbe amount due.
