Mrs. Alfred C. Cass gave a card party
Tuesday at her home in Denver.
The party was given in honor of Mrs.
Dorgan and Mrs. Muirof Lincoln. Mrs.
Dorgan, however, was no: present, as
she did not go to Denver.
Mrs. Charles Mayer entertained ver
pleasantly at her home on Friday after
noon in honor of Mrs. Levi and Mrs.
Metnrath. The ladies passed the after
noon playing high Ave. Dainty and
cooling refreshments were served.
Miss Nelle Dean of Ashland gave a
charming 6ix o'clock dinner for a few
of her friends on Saturday evening.
Those" who shared the pleasures of the
dinner were Mrs. Mohrenstecher, Misses
Dena Loomis, Anna Tibbets, Stella
Kirker, May Whiting, Louise Pound,
Olivia Pound and Florence Winger.
The Elizabeth Zane Chapter ef the
Children of the American Revolution
gave a picnic at Lincoln Park Friday
morning. The children enjoyed them
selves playing in the park and were then
served a delicious lunch prepared for
them by the Misses Garten and Web
ster. Cards have been received in the city
from Mr. and Mrs. Becker, formally of
Lincoln, announcing the marriage of
their daughter, Bernice Grace, to Mr.
Frank Arthur May. The ceremony
took place at the home of the bride's
parents, 597 Cass Avenue, Detroit, Mich.,
Wednesday, June 15, 1898.
O In dearth of Bociety events at home
this week, it is good to read of the
gayeties at Denver which so many Lin
coln women are enjoying. Mrs W. J.
Bryan was an assistant hostess at a
luncheon given on Friday for Mrs. Ben
rotin to meet the national officers, state
presidents and other distinguished
guests.
The lecture next Tuesday evening at
the Oliver by Edward A. Kimball, C. S.
D., of the First Church of Christ, scien
tist, of Chicago, promises to attract
more than usual interest, for it will
elucidate and explain the true meaning
of Christian science. The lecture is
free to all, the eipenses being defrayed
by the Christian scientists of this city,
undtr whose auspices it is given.
A jolly crowd of Delta Gammas went
to Omaha Wednesday to attend the ex
position. They found it too warm to ge
througn the buildings, so they spent
the time in the Midway. Those who
comprised the party were:

Miss Grace Guy Thompson and Mr.
J. S. Hyatt were quietly married at the
home of the bride's mother on Wednes
day. Promptly at four o'clock the party
entered the parlor. Rev. Charles Finch
performed the ceremony. The bride
wore her traveling suit of gray blue.
Ihe house was decorated with palms
and roses. After the ceremony they all
sat down to an elegent luncheon They
left on the six o.clock train for Denver
and Manitou, After August 1 they will
be at home to their friends at 1808
Cherry street.
A number of Pleasant Hour people
enjoyed a picnic at Meadow Brook Lodge
last Saturday evening. They went out
in the trolly. The evening was spent in
dancing, games and a general good
time. Those who went out were

Mrs. Lettan of Fairbury; Mesdames
Harford, Lindsey, Smith and Towne of
Omaha; President Stoutenborough of
Plattsmouth and several others left on
the Burlington en Monday evening for
the Biennial in Denver. Most of these
ladies will return on the thirtieth to
their homes in light green Nebraska,
as Stephen Crane, the color crank,
would say.
Mr. and Mrs. Uerpolsheimer's silver
weddirg anniversary was celebrated
Monday night. It was in the form of a
surprise party arranged by some of Mr.
Hcrpolsheimer's employees. They all
met at the store and then proceeded to
the Herpolsbeimer home. The evening
was spent in music and conversation.
The most ei joyable feature of the whole
evening was ihe presentation of a beau
tiful silver set to Mr. and Mrs. Herpol
sbeimer. The set was presented by
Rev. E.S. Branch, of the Free BaptiBt
church, who five years ago made the
presentation speech at Mr. and Mrs.
Uerpolsheimer's china anniversary.
The porch and lawn were decorated
with Japanese lanterns. Dainty re
freshments were served.
The First band of the Second Presby
terian church gave a reception Wednes
day afternoon to the ladies of the con
gregation and a fey iavited friends, at
the homo of Mrs. W. C. Phillips, 2939 Q
street. The many guests were received
by Mrs. Phillips, Mrs. H. E. Wood and
Mrs. I. E. Johnson. The house wap en
larged for the occasion by enclosing a
large veranda with canvaB, and the
rooms were profusely decorated with
cut flowers and the national colors.
Charlotte Clark, assisted by Mrs. Chat
burn, Mrs. George Wait, Mrp. Wiugh
and Mrs. Trfster, served cake and Pres
byterian punch in the dining room. Mrs.
W. M. Hindman and Mrs. W. P. Phillipp
were welcome guests from the First
Presbyterian church, and Mis. Eli PiUm.

grets. MiBs Nellie Brown, sister of Mrs. E.
Hallett, who came here several weeks
8go suffering from a severe attack of
asthma, has returned to her home at
Ottumwa, Iowa. She got no relief
while here and returned quite discour
aged. She came here about three years
ago, suffering from the same cause and
