Digby Bel! plajcJ to a fairly wel
Tilled house at tbo Funke last Friday
night. Mr. Bell in the character of Dr.
Willow of Vincennes, Ind., is strongly
reminiscent of Frank Majo in Pudd'n
liead Wilson or Sol Smith Russell. Tho
play apotheosizes the homo anil child
ren. The characters arc balanced like
Hogarth's serial picture". There was
Dr. Willow, the atrectionate, gco.I man,
generou, and freo from tho vices of
scandalizing and envy which tlourish in
small places, contrasted with the mer
cenary grocer whose petty interference
in her father's affairs deprived him of his
sweetheart, Tho industrious, honest,
tenperato young Tom Bunco and tho
drunken, lazy Fred Dalrymple. "Grand
maw' the virago, and Mrs. Bunco tho
lovely, swupathiziog, domestic angel.
The worldly-minded "Harriet" and tho
modest violet of a youngest daughter.
Crabbed ago and jouth. Tho play,
witha', is wholesome and except for the
fie er action of Shoreacres, quite as ef
fective. Some of tho "business,'" such as
undressing the little girl, has been ad
opted from that play, much to the pleas
ure of the audience. Mr. Bell has finish
He has power in reserve. Ho does not
rant and ha has a smooth resonant
voice. He does not hurry his lines and
every one in the further corners of tho
rooai can hear him. Mrs. Bell's "Graud
niaw' was unique. Sho rose at times to
the perfection (f Mrs. Drew as Airs,
lalaprop. The company was a very
good one. Tho next time they come to
Lincoln they will play to standing room
only. I have-yet to hear an unfavorable
criticism on their performance.
"The Dazzler'' played to moJerato
business at the Funke on Monday night.
The play is tho usual farce comedy with
Irish variations. As usual the men were
funny and clever, tho women homely,
with cracked voices, wrinkled and soilcc1,
gowns and de imp as far as the audi
onio was concerned, whenever they carao
on the stage.

"A Bunch of Keys," poilished up to
date Hoyt's best satire, still possespes
great attractisn for the tbentregoing

rons of farce comeJy. This rattling
farcical production bristles with funny
situitiins so closely following upon each
other that the audience is in a continual
peal of laughter until tne fall or tho cur

which form an important item in the
play, are entirely new and nicely render

at the Funko Monday, December 20th,

Tho Bo ton Continuous company

applause by his performance on the
slack wire. Mart W. Zeilie 6ang two
taking songs. The Eldons appeared in
novel feats of juggling interspersed with
flashes of comedy, forming a pleasing
combination. Rice and Delmar as Ger

one of the best numbers on the even

the audience in a round of laughter.
