Ths collection of Copley prints at
the university is mw die played in Mi s
Parkei's s?u lio inste id of in the art gal
lery. They are reproduc ons of tl e
work of EJwin A. Abbey, E. II. Blash
Held, Robert Blum, Pa vis deChuvannss
John La Furge, Frederick Macmoonier,
John S, Sargent, Slihu Vedder and
others, which hang on the walla of the
Boston pub i : library. The platinum
process by which these great works are
produced with such fidelity, retains the
technique of the original. It is difficult
to believe on first examination that thy
are not guacbe copies by a good artist of
of a greater one's work. The photo
graphs are for sale and they are most
desirable Mechanical teproduction can
go no further in retaining the s ft tone
o! ths original than in these prints, Ab
bey's The Rmnd Table of King Arthur
waiseen by a great number at the
world's fair. I get a better impression
of the fresco in the copy because the
original is so immense that the eye can
only take in the detail and the inexpres
sible beauty and meaning of the com
position as a whole is lost.
This collection gives one a new idea
of the vigor, fertility, and genius of;
American artists. In another decade
they will certiioly lead the world.
BETTER.
I fashioned a bow from the sinewy jew;
From lancewond hard shaped arrow true.

Answered my friend, "it is better so;
Better sire life than death, I trow."

DESPAIR.
There is no rhyme of laughter any more.
There I no Jest or sons.
There Is no roke to s-nd our craft along:

There Is no plea or praying any more.

There are no tears, no, never any more.
