    THE COURIER.
Republican Rally.
With propitious weather, the
people of Lincoln may next
Tuesday look for tbo biggest McKinley
demonstration that has yet taken place
anywhern in the state. At that time
two parades will be had, one in the
afternoon and one in the eveuing. Lot
tors have been received by B. R. Sizcr
and the county central committee from
numerous towns in the state, expressing
the willingness and pleasure of the
various republican organizations to
participate in this rally. The old sol
diers of this city are also very
active, and are inviting their
many comrades elsewhere to
come and join them here. Corporal
Tanner and Generals Siegell, Sickle,
Porter, Manderson and many other
notables will bo present to speak on the
iGsues of the campaign. Without doubt
next Tuesday will be a red letter day
for the republicans of Nebraska.
The Ladies' McKinley clubs of Lin
coin are doing much good work for the
republican ticket. They hold meetings
nightly in some part of the city, and
that their wholesome influence is being
felt is manifest to the most casual ob.
server. Tht ladies in politics, as in
every other vocation, are enthusiastic
effective and of great value.
The only thing that can pofsibly elect
Bryan is the general confidence that he
cannot possibly be elected.
Half a voto is better than none; but a
whole voto for McKinley will be more
effective than half a vote for Palmer.
When in doubt play trumps, and Mc
Kinley is the only trump that can take
the trick.
The man that is afraid to vote the Re
publican ticket on account of a higher
tariff would allow his whole houBe to
burn down for fear the firemen might
injure his furniture.
If there were wisdom in : xperience,
the South, that suffered from a deprci
ated currency during"theCivil war.would
be unanimous for honest money.
It is not un-American to adopt the
financial policy of foreign nations when
that policy is undoubtedly the best.
If through conscientious scruples you
cannot vote for McKinley or for Palmer,
what is the matter with the prohibition
candidite?
The Young ManDon't you think I'd
make a good husband for your daughter?
The Old One I'm not disputing that
point; but, great heavens! so soon after
the recent hard times, I can't get the
foolish child everything she wants!
Brown Jones made a very agreeable
discovery when he reached home last
night.
Smith What was it?
Brown The keyhole.
Robicson I see that General Weyler
continues to issue his proclamation.
Jenkins Yes; I guess he's trying to
establish his place in literature as the
greatest exponent of modern Spanish
fiction.
Salvation Shouter Join us and you
shall have that better part that shall
never be taken away from you!
Excited Actor Good enough! 111
sign for a summer salary!
"It's a euro sign she has money."
"What is?"
"Why, her corsage is V-shaped."
A SENSITIVE SOUL.
"I was down at Long Branch the
other day and came near getting into a
fight with one of the summer residents
over a game of billiards.'
'How so?"
"lie waB insulted because I suggested
placing with three bails.'
