snide by act of tbe United States congress of
1872 as V "grand national play ground, a
museum of uuparalieled, indeed, Incomparable
marvel, free to all men for all time. It lies
in northwestern Wyoming, and is a volcanic
plateau, hemmed in by mountain spurs whose
snow capped pefcs attain an altitude ranging
from 9,000 to 11,000 ft. Its arerage elevation
above sea-level is between T,0C0 and 8,000
feet. The management and piotection of
this mammoth p'easure ground devolves upon
the department of the interior at Washington,
its direct and immediate con i ml Iteini; in
charge of a superintendent, with headquarters at Mammoth Hot Sprinrs, and
a suficient force of cavalry regulars to enforce obedience to bis orders. Thus is
the proper policing of tbe reserve, as well as tbe preservation of its multifarious
objects of interest, and

tbe early part of the season is to he pre

in August have found, it a very delightful

over the Burlington and Northern Pacific.
Warm clothing should be worn. That
applies both to outer and under gaiments. Mary changes of elt-vati u and tem
perature are experienced, and during a good portion of each dav, for much of the
park season, one thus dressed

the season, a heavy overcoat
for both men and women is in
diapewsible. A mackintosh,
light overcoat or rubber coat
