THE COURIER. $rxirxr'ccccrc$ 6 d 9 $ i ELEANOR'S LETTER My Dear S Spring fever has taken hold of usall. Jack says the whole town needs Hood's. Captain Guilfoyle has been keeping bachelor hall ever since the first of the year, Mrs. Guil foyle and their little daughter having been at Ft. Robinson on account of the daughter's health. Last Saturday be was pleasantly surprised by Mrs. Guil foyle's arrival. She remained in town a few days, leaving for Ft. Robinson Wed nesdry evening. Mrs. Guilfoyle's stay was marked by one or two small enter tainments given for her. Ernest Hough ton has been having another adventure. Really the newspapers are kept busy chronicling the experiences of this young man. Mrs. H. H. Wilson gave a Kensing ton with conundrum attachment at her home on 16th street last week The conundaums were hung up around the rooms and after considerable con sultation the ladies were able to guess the most of them. Dr. and Mrs. Ladd gave a reception last week to the fraternity of Kappa Alpha Theta and its friends. It was a large and joyful party. The Beta Theta fraternity gave a party last Friday evening at the home of Everett Ames on Prospect street. Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Wright's brother and sister, sail on the 16th for Europe accompanied by their mother, Mrs. Robinson. Mr. and Mrs. Mohrenstecher sail on the same date. Mr. and Mrs. Mohrenstecher have gone to Nebraska City, from there they will go to Quincy, Mrs. Mohrenstecher's home, from there to New York- flow lovely it is to be able to be seasick. I console myself for being obliged to stay at home on account of the emptiness of poor poor papa's purse, by thinking of the cool evenings that I shall be sit ting out on the porch talking with cal lers or ridding my bicycle up and down bicyclo avenue, when the Robinsons and the Mohrenstechers will be, Oh! so sick and wondering whatever put it into their heads to go abroad. Their he ads will whirl and the boat will go up, up, and then slip down a greasy, bottom less incline that they hate, and then, Oh. it makes me sick to think of it, the odor of the bilgewater will come into the stateroom and envelop them, till if the Robinsons and Mohrensteckers do not rail at themselves and at each other it will show excellent bringing up. Wednesday Matt Baldwin entertained a lot of young people at Meadow brook farm. They say that Matt Baldwin in tends to take up farming this year at Meadow Brook farm. This is a fashion able diversion that has some how never been fashionable hereabouts. The party at the farm was comprised of Messrs. Baldwin, Zehrung, Clough, Low, Will Clark, Hurlbut, Dixon, Haughton, Rees?, Welch, Houtz; Misses Marshall, Latta, Carson, Grace Harri son, of Beatrice; Griffith, Grace Oakley, Hooper. Gathering violets was much in favor. C. W. Hollowbush has gone to Kan sas City to engage in business. C. A. Hanna has been in Cadiz and Chicago. Mrs Bessie Pennebaker, of Grand Isl and is the guest of her aunt Mrs. J. E. White, Miss Mary Fechet is looking for ward to a. visit to New York city. She will spend several weeks in Omaha on her return. Twenty questions is the popular Bocial fad of the moment ic this town. Jack says he prefers up-Jenkins himself. Too much intellectual strain about the former. This game has brought out vividly what a good many people didn't know about geography and other things. I think up-Jenkins strikes our level. Miss Carson retumed Monday from an extended visit in Des Moines and Chicago. Tonight, Friday, Miss Slaugh ter will entertain for Mies Harrison, of Beatrice. Miss Harrison, as the guest of Mies Grace Oakley, is the receipient of much attention, tomorrow Miss Oak ley and Miss Harrison will go to Omaha for the day. Tuesday at the Oakley's there was a 6mall party as follows: Misses Harrison, Nance, Moore, Slaugh ter; Messrs. Dixon, Baldwin, Corby, Haughton. Mallalieu, Hu'lbut. Satur day night the university boys had charge of John Dixon. They were putting him through some kind of a ceremony, and took him to different houses where he is in the habit of calling. Mr. Dixon and Mr. Baldwin will go to Nebraska Ctiy tomorrow, to "take a degree." Thursday Miss Alice Slaughter entertained the whist club composed largely of univer sity people. Fred White is confined to the house with inflammatory rheuma tism. Mrs. Lew Marshall entertained Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Pennebaker a small party, some members of a fra ternity, I believe. The early part of the week Mrs. W. C. Wilson, Mrs. Buck staff, Mrs. Wright and Mrs. F. W. Brown went to Omaha where they were guests of Miss Bennett, Mrs. Brown's sister. The party was handsomely en tertained at dinner at McTague's by Mr. Howell. Paul Horbach, of Omaha, appears to have suddenly found Lincoln attractive. He has been noticed, here several times lately. John Farwell and Miss Florence Farwell will give a danc ing party at the Lansing hall next Fri day evening. Mrs. E. S. Hawley has ar rived in Brookline, Mass., where her daughter, Mrs. Fred Smyser, lives. Mrs. John Dorgan has returned from Color ado. Guy Hurlbut will leave for Boston in a few weeks. There, my letter is con cise enough this week. Tho truth is. I have been out of town several days, and I have been compelled to abridge my usual verbosity. Yours lovingly, Elkanok. Friday, May 8.
