Dixey and the Holden Com edy company hare ministered to the pleasure of theatre-going people. Rich ard Harlow's neck and shoulders pro truded through the glitter and nonsense of "1192,' and the female impersonator enacted the role of "Isabella" with the usual burlesquo effectiveness, tho he is not any better than the "Isabella' of a year ago. Bessie Bonehill is a feature of "1492." She sings. The distin guishing characteristic of her singing is that one can understand what she sings. Her expression and enunciation are well nigh perfect. The witticisms of this great extravaganza came just as rapidly as of yore, ind were quite as tak ing. It was in all respects a moat satis factory performance. The only living pictures ever seen in Lincoln were those given in connection with "1492" under the name of Kilayni, the inventor. There have been some attempts to put on living pictures, but they were not important. The Kilayni pictures were the real thing. The fig ures were conspicuous by reason of their lack of drapery. Frederick Warde appeared in "The Mountebank" at the Lansing Thursday night. Mr. Wardo was as demonstra tive as usual, and the company was not strong. Henry E. Dixey presented "The Lot tery of Love" last night at the Lansing. The Holdens have been amusing large audiences at the Funke all the week. They will conclude their engage ment tonight. Matineo this afternoon. ANNOUNCEMENTS. The Elephant in "Wang1 lhe Woodward Theatre company will open a week's engagement at the Lan sing on Monday, tho 27th. The company carries special scenery for all their plays, also calcium lights, and introduce a number of specialties every night. One of the plays to be presented during next week is "The Midnight Watch," a strong comedy drama, written by Mr. J. Fran cis Kirke. the leading man of the com pany, and presented with every detail complete. The railroad effects in the third act are equal to any company play ing at regular prices. On Monday even ing two ladies or one lady and gentle man admitted on one reserved 30 cent ticket if purchased before 7 o'clock. Schnoth, Prof. Sam Dreis back, Mi6s Carrie Woodward, Miss Minna Rogers, Miss Blanche Morgan, Miss Maud Gale. It is simply to mention the name onl y and "Wang' is remembered and greeted like an old friend, simply because "Wang," than which no comic opera has had a greater success, brings with it a gorgeous array of absolutely new and accurately Siamese costumes and magnificent scenery, which with equal accuracy represent the Siamese locali ties in which the scenes of the opera are laid. This attraction comes to the Funke opera house for one night only. Thursday, January 30, and will bring to our city a car load of scenery, drops and properties. In "Wang" one hundred costumes are used by the chorus alone. This fact gives a faint idea of the gor geousness with which the opera is put on the 6tage, and the scenery is on the same scale of magniticonce. D. W Truss it company, directors and sole owners of "Wang" for tho fifth and farewell tour, promise everything as rep resented, and their names are a sufficient guarantee that every promise will be carried out. There has been a very general but mistaken impression that "Wang,' the merry Siamese opera by Goodwir. & Morse, has passed into other hands. Asa matter of fact, the work, which has been the greatest popular and financial success known in years, and which this season goes out for its fifth year, has not been 6oId. It is now tho valuable property of identically the san(e owners as on the night of its first production five years ago . "Wang" is now on its final tour, and this will positively be its last appearance in our city. Seats on sale at Dunn's drug store Tuesday morning. January 23, at 9 a.m. Prices 25, 50, 75 and 81. Box Eeats 81.50. For the third time this season The Courier is pleased to announce the coming of that versatile comedian, Mr. Dan'l Sully in his latest success "A Bachelor's Wives." His coming is equi valent to stating that on Tuesday, J.n. 28 at the Lansing theatre Mr. Sully will be seen in his strongest character ization bis large reperertory affords. Mr. Sull has achieved a distinction amongst his brothers-in-art, not only as an actor but as producer he probably having brought forward more succes; ful plays than any other American actor. Mr. Sully is an extremely stud ious and scholarly gentlemen whose knowledge of his chosen profession has been attained by his extensive research es in literature, being one of the best read men of tho stage. He is always earful to include in his repertory of plays only such that meets with public approval. "A Bachelor's Wives'' is eminent!' in he idea of high class comedies. It deals in naturalness and at times with lofty sentiments in a manner that thoroughly impresses the auditor. The author Mr. Dan Mason, has written several pluys of note but in his present comedy he has passed this originality and constructed a play of more than ordinary interest. Mr. Sully has been very sagacious in selecting his company and boasts upon its indi vidual strength. A FEW SANDlDATEb L. L.
