Mrs. William Tupper Wyman enter tained Miss McKenna, Miss Dewey, Miss Stuart, the Misses Yates and Miss Pratt at luncheon on Thursday at her summer villa at Florence. Mr. W. S. Gilbert's "Broken Hearts" was given by amateurs ic the open air on Tuesday evening at the Omaha Lawn Tennis Club's grounds for the benefit of the Woman's Christian Association. A mad maiden in love with an old sun dial tells the story, a play closely suggestive of Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream" or Paneton's "Niobe". There cauld not have been a more perfect night for a performance and never in the history of amateur theatricals has has so perfect a stage picture been pre sented. The cast was made up of Mrs. J. H. Wheeler, Miss Alice Drake, Miss Chapman. Miss Blanche Allen, Mr. Herbert Cook and Mr. Frank Lea Short. While the acting of all was exceedingly good, probably the best ever done in Omaha by amateurs, it was Miss Drake who carried off the palm and recoived the most applause. She was an artistic surprise to her friends and her reading was delightful to listen to. Miss Mary Jones and Miss Willa Cather returned from Beatrice, where they were the guests of the Misses Weston, this week. Miss Cather went at once to Red Cloud where she will re main until she begins actively upon her duties as a member of The Courier's staff. quartette, will go to Chicago to reside. It is intended for the coming exposition at Atlanta. The por trait will be hung in the women's de partment with others representing the professional women of the country. Under the ordinance consum ers are obliged to shut off the water in case of tire occuring between the hours of 6 and 8 o'clock p. m, and unless a meter is used the lawn tax applies to the period between 6 and 8 o'clock, and this period only.
