Miss Marie Hoover has gone to St.

Mrs. L. A. Sherman and daughter
have gone to Denver.
Dr. J. G. Cotter has returned from an
extended visit in the east.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Harris and childred
left Tuesday for Minnesota.
Mr. and Mrs. H. II. Fish have gone
to Chicago, their future home.
Mrs. Godfrey and daughter are the
guests of O. V. Eaton and family.
Miss Rowena Higginson, of Omaha, is
the guest of Miss Jessie Lansing.
Frank "Lorenz was given a benefit at
Burlington beach Tuesday evening.
Miss Maud Oakley will give a small
dancing party at the Lansing tonight.
Dr. and Mrs. J. O. Carter have re
turned from an extended eastern trip.
Joseph Alden, of Aurora, formerly of
The Coujiier, spent the Fourth in this
city.
Miss Grace Castle, of Jacksonville,
111., is the guest of Miss Henrietta Hoi
lowbush. Mrs. Marshall and Miss Marie Mar
shall have gone to Vermont for the
summer.
S. L. Geisthardt will leave next week
for New York where he will he will sail
for Europe.
Thomas Daruell,and family are in
attendance upon the Crete Chautau
qua assembly.
Col F. M. Woods, Mr. and Mrs. Mark
Woods and Mrs. Joseph Grainger are at
Lake Minnetonka.
Misses Jessie and Florence Rinehart
of Lafayette, Ind., aro the guests of
Mrs. George J. Woods.
Mr. and Mrs. II. S. Freeman spent
the Fourth in Beatrice, the guests of
Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Howey.
Mrs. II. B. Patrick and Mrs. A. G.
Billmeyer were in Beatrice this week
the guest of Miss Belle Sabin.
Miss Inez Barrett has returned from
Kingsville, 0., where she took a course
in music, and is the guest of her brother,
Joe Barrett.
Prof. H. B. Ward, of the state univer
sity, left Wednesday for the interior of
Iowa where he joined Mrs. Ward, going
thence to Chicago.
The Patriachs dance at Burlington
Beach announced in another place to
take place Tuesday evening will be
givon Monday evening instead.
Miss L. B. Loomis left Thursday for
Colorado. She will spend the summer
in Colorado Springs in attendance upon
the noted su timer school at that place.
The new city library board is as

staff of Wyoming, passed through Lin

lington depot a few minutes and were

staff of Wyoming, passed through
Lincoln Wednesday enroute to the St.
Louis exposition and military encamp
ment. The party stopped at the Bur
lington depot a few minutes and were
greeted by Governor Holcomb, Secre
tary March, Auditor Moore, Secretary
of State Piper, Treasurer Bartley and
Major Fechet.
Mattson Baldwin entertained a com
pany of friends on tho afternoon and
evening of the Fourth at Mead jw Brook
farm, south of the city. This beautiful
farm was doubly attractive on this fes
tive occasion. The club house which
Mr. Baldwin is errecting is not com
pleted but it was utilized by the guests.
There were hammocks and a grateful
shade and a merry company. A bounti
ful supper was served, and in tho eve
ning there was a display of fireworks.

Early Thursday morning a party left
for South Bend to spend the Fourth,
returning early in the evening. South
Bend is a charming place to picnic, and
the day was much enjoyed. Among
the features of the day were Oliver Lan
sing's involuntary bath with Tom Ben
ton as a gallant rescuer Mr. Benton
denies that he pushed him in, and John
Lottridge's great exhibition of fancy
riding on a donkey. The party

Wednesday evening, at 8:30 o'clock,
Miss Bertha Grace Slaughter and
William C. Gamble, of Omaha, were
united in marriage, Rev. William B.
Slaughter, of Chicago, performing the
ceremony The wedding took place at
the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Brad
Slaughter, the bride's parents, which
was beautifully decorated for the occa
sion with emilax, sweet peas and car
nations. There was a floral altar in the
alcove of the drawing room. Miss
Toote Kent headed the bridal procession,
bearing the ring on a satin cushion,
with Master Denton Slaughter. The
bride was preceded by Miss Alice
Slaughter and Miss Nellie Gamble. Mr.
Gamble was accompanied by his best
man, Mr. Will McCune, of Omaha.
Miss Slaughter wore a beautiful silk
crepe gown, and was a lovely bride. She
was tscorted to the altar by her father.
The Methodist marriage service was
used. The Mendelssohn wedding march
was rendered by Miss Parker and Web
Wheeler. Following the ceremony a
reception was held, at which the follow
