easily, the tiort that leads all others as
a mcuns of pleasure and health. It
makes no reference to racing, being
intended only for the amateur rider who
has a wheel for amusement and well
feeling it brings. It is handsomely set off
with some thirty odd silhouettes and
vignettes and is well worth its price, one
dollar.
1 have also received a neat little
little pamphlet, "Points on Training for
Wheelmen by Thos V. Eck," which is
tent out by E. C. Stearns & Co., of
Syracuse, N. V., to all who enclose a
sUimp therefor. It is comprehensive
and will bo found very useful by all who
nice or contemplate doing so.
In the cut on the lirst page of The
Coukier this week are two enthusiatic
lady cyeltsts of our city. Out of defer
ence to the modesty of the ladies I shall
give no names. Very many of the
wheeling contingent will at once
recognize them however.
Chief Consul'Ebersole, of Omaha, and
Vico Consul Seifert of Lincoln, are pros
pecting on a mammoth run to Kearney
on July 2d, 'M and 4th. The column
will start at Omaha and wheel via Fre
mont, Lincoln, York. Aurora and Grand
Island to Kearney. The phalanx will
then bo joined by columns from Super
ior, Columbus, and it is hoped from
Nebraska City. Beatrice and other
points. From Grand Island to Kearney,
a three hours ride, this run should be
tho larget ever run in the state. The
object of the run is of course the L. A.
W. State meet.
The state meet at Kearney ought to
attract a large class of riders this year
A $2,000 prize list, consisting of high
grade wheels, big diamonds, Sterling
silverware and championship medals
galore, topped off with a possible prize
of a magnificent piano ought to and will
prove a drawing card that will put
ginger into every event during the meet.
Special trains will be rtiu from every
city of any note and Kearney will again
have an opportunity to prove that her
hospitality is as boundless as the sea.
There will be sixteen events and over
150 entries.
Mrs. E. R. Guthrie is among the sor
rowing ones in the cycling fraternity.
On Thursday last her husbond disposed
of their tandem with which he has done
so much good missionary work in teach
ing ladies the beauties and pleasures of
wheeling: and Mrs. G. is, is consequence
realizing that in the possession of a
tandem one has "a thing of beauty and
a joy" but not forever. The tandem
was purchased by Mr. U. G. Powell, of
902 II street. Mr. Guthrie immediately
placed an order for another tandem
which he expects to arrive next week.
On Wednesday night at 8 o'clock one
of the largest columns of cyclists ever
appearing in Lincoln filed north from
the Capital Citv Cvcling Club rooms on
South Twelfth Street, west on O Street,
out over the viaduct and westward to
Burlington Beach. It was the regular
Wednesday evening run of the Capital
City club reinforced by a big delegation
of the Wanderers. The latter club
formed at their usual rendesvous at K
and Fifteenth streets where thoy were
met by President Ed M. Allen of tho
four C's and an aide, who escorted the
column to the rooms of the club. On
arrival there, an advance guard was
formed of the todies of the 4 C's and
their escorts, then followed tho Wander
ers, some thirty gentlemen of the C. C.
C. C. bringing up the rear, in this
order the cavalcade moved out to the
beach. On arrival at the beach the line
broke up, eomo seeking refreshments,
others sought the boats and bathing
houses, while a 6mall contingent return
ed at once to the city. A pleasant
evening was enjoyed by all and I hope
and believe that this first consolidated
run will be the forerunner of many
others.

THE CYCLE CONTEST.
As soon as this issue of The Courier
is in the hands of its readers the cycle
contest can be said to bo fairly opened.
Following this article will be found
t.vo coupons with which the voting will
bo carried on. No one in any way con
nected with TiiE Courier will bo al
lowed to become a contestant.
Remember, this is not merely a voting
contest, but a contest in which tho con
testant must prove his or her popularity
by tho number of bona tide paid sub
scriptions he or she can succeed in plac
ing on the books of Thelourier byC p.
m. Sept. 14th, 1893. Al60 remember
that each contestant must bo a member
of some bicycle organization in this
city.
Each coupon sent must be accompan
ied by something that has cost more
lalor than the mere clipping it out with
a pair of scissors. Each coupon rant in
must be accompanied by at least three
month's subscription to The Courier
viz 50 cents. This will entitle the con
testant to a credit of 25 votes. A six
month's subscription and 81.00 will give
50 votes. One year's subscription and
?2.00 will count as 100 votes. No cou
pons will be counted that are unac

length of time. Money received on re
newals when accompanied by coupons

tho number of votes credited for a new

Now you have the conditions. The
prizes: a Victor gent's wheel and a
Syracuse lady's wheel are announced
elsewhere and will, a little later be
prominently put on exhibition. Go to

The run to Koca next Sunday will be
exclusively a club run none but mem-
here of the Capital City Cycling Club
being invited to participate therein.
Instead of going to a hotel, baskets will
be sent out by wagon and dinner taken
in the woods. Those lady members of
the club who accompany the boys will
be given a hearty welcome and it is
hoped a number will join the party.
The start will be made at 8 o'clock and
a leisurely run be made. The distance
is but twelve miles.

Mr. Aaron Buckstaff is now among
tho riders of the city, having purchased
a new mount the past week.
There ib sonic good material in the
Wanderers for membership in the Cap

Burt Chaney left Lincoln on Saturday
last on his wheel at 1 p. m. and arrived
in Omaha at 8 o'clock the same evening.
Tne Wanderers have a good club.
They Bhould be regularly organized
however, or better still, should in a body
come into the Capital City club.

will soon demonstrate the fact that
"there aro others."
I want to call the attention of the
members of the 4 C's to the fact that
tho Wanderers set them a good example
on Wednesday night. Every member
wore the club colors.

The charge that cycling is a "craze'
and will die out in time is every once in
a w'hiIo git'en a poweiful refutation for
the reason that some old rider, after a
season of rest, purchases a new wheel
and is again seen among the riders. Mr.
C II. Imhoff was among the first of
Lincoln riders on the old ordinary.
After a long season of rest he has this
week purchased from the Lincoln Cycle
Compady a handsome Sterling and not
only that, but supplemented it by the
purchase of a lady's Sterling for Mrs.

On the seventh page will bo found a
view of the famous Waltham, Mass., o.aI
upon which records have time and
again been "smashed to flinders" as
"Friend Bill" Benson would say, and
which now holds tho world's record for
tho competion mile. It was the leading
track of 1891. and doubtless a grreat
number of 1895 records will be made
thereon. Over 12,000 people were pres
ent at this track on Monday last at the
National circuit meet of the Press
Cycling club, when three records were
broken and seven close and exciting
races run.
The Btate meet at Kearney on July
4th and 5th will be a great gathering
of cyclists. The prizes are elegant and
valuable, running in amounts from
S10.00 to 8600.00, the latter being in the
form of a handsome piauo and offered
as first prize in the mile open class B
I look for a number of the larger prizes
to be brought home by Lincoln riders.
