the club on the suggested evening runs.
I hope the club or the touring board or
some one else in authority wilt take this
wiattnr tin. Mrs. flvrliflt will not ride
on Sunday runs and there are many
ladies who agree with her. Pleasant
evening runs, starting at 7:30 could be
made from week to week to Burlington
Beach, Lincoln Park, Waverly, Emerald
and other points, and would prove bene
ficial to the members both physically
end socially.
One of the most enjoyable experiences
that has fallen to the lot of the Wander
ers was the farowell party given to the
members of the club by Misses May
Gibson, Bertha Bottum and Ida Rob
bins on last Tuesday night. The gath
ering was held at the home of Miss
Gibson at 1441 G street and toak the
place of the conventional run of the
clnb and was given by the young ladies
mentioned as a "good by" to tbeir more
intimate comrades in wheeling, prepar
atory to their departure for the east,
where they wili spend the summer. A
thoroughly enjoyable time was had by
those present and the greatest of all
cyclists, Time, had pedaled over the
hill of midnight before the final guest
departed. The evening was spent in
various other amusements and the
guests regaled with toothsome light re
freshments. Those present were Misses
Emma Bing, Florence Hall, Edith Fisk,
Maude Gwine, Emma North, Maude
McCain, Ida Bobbins, Bertha Bottum
and May Gibson, Messrs. Horry Dobson,
E. a. Ransom, G. W. Woodberry, J. g.
Hyatt, B. Teele, and Mr. Robbins. The
regular run of the club this week will
be made on Wednesday night and will
probably cover Lincoln Park and the
aaylum.
While coming out of Eddie Riggs'
drug store yesternay evening I met Ed.
Millmine. He rushed up to me in a
fever of excitement and exclaimed: "I've
found out the reason why the ladies
who object to wearing bloomers, do so."
Why?" I asked. Whereupon he
rattled off the following:
"Many bare a little calf
And that, so goes the rumor.
Explains why they would never wear
The Knickerbocker bloomer."
X Have been wondering ever since
whether he knew what he w3 talking
about.
I am perfecting plans' very rapidly for
the contest hinted at last week, but will
not announce details before they are
entirely completed. Probably next
week I will give the snap away.
I had hoped to give you this week the
' photos of two of the lady riders of the
city, but unforseen delays prevented
the appear en ce of the cut until another
week. Instead you have the great
Rambler Quad team for which I am
again indebted to Mr. R. E. Guthrie.
Many have heard of a "bicycle built for
two" but this is perhaps the firs time
many of the readers of The Coubier
have seen even a photograph of one for
four riders. This is the team that
paced Wilbur Edwards in California in
his great mile in 1.34 1-5.
