MacFarland returned Sunday from Spirit Lake, Iowa, where they represented Lincoln at the meeting of the members of the Central Whist League. It was decided to hold another meeting in Council Bluffs on December 6th. Lincoln, Sioux City, Cedar Rapids, Sioux Falls, fankton and Council Bluffs comprise the league. While there Messrs Townley and MacFarland had Jhe honor of catching tho largest black bass ever taken at Spirit Lake. It measured twenty-two inches in length and weighed four and a quarter pounds. The university-cadets gave a dance at Burlington Beach last Friday night. The boys appeared in their uniforms with duck trousers while the young ladies were becomingly dressed in raiment light and airy. Tuttle Saturday evening last, to commemorate the silver anni versary of their mai riage, and to have their friendB meet their daughter. Miss Daisy, was one of the largest and most delightful parties of the late season. Their residence on east O street was attractively decorated with smilax and cut flowers in every room, and the lawn was gay with colored lanterns. Mrs. Tuttle wore the dress in which she was led to the alter as a bride twenty-five years before, and at tho Bide of her husband and her charming daughters, Misses Daisy and Helen, received the guests as they appeared. Ices were served by the Misses Eddy.Melick, Erb, Graham, Gilium, Harwood and Dau bach, and in the dining room which was rich with flowers like- the rest Mrs. Holyoke, Mrs. Guthrie, Mrs. Landy 0. Clark, Mrs. Melick and Mrs. McCand less served cake and coffee. Miss Tuttle, accompanied on the piano by Miss Gertrude Culbertson, entertained the company with tine vocal selections, among them, "Dost Thou Know That Sweet Hand" from "Mignon," and Dawley's "Because 1 Love You," and "Ecstacy" by Beach. Miss Tuttle has studied vocal music for several years under some of the best teachers of Bos ton and New York, and has a voice of unusual purity. Hagenow's orchestra at the head of the hallway discoursed instrumental music in the intervals. The tables were laden with numberless presents from friends of the host and hostess, many of them peculiarly apt and valuable, and some from old school mates whose good wishes time had not dimmed.
