THE COURIER. IO I I t R POINTS IN POLITICS. out and out, sheriff. In the Fifth there is the usual quiet that preceeds a storm. When Ed Sizcr withdrew as a candidate for mayor, he induced a good many people to promise to support him for clerk of the district court this fall, and he is inclin ed to insist on a redemption of these pledges. He wants the ward. He doesn't caro about dividing it with any liody. Gran Ensign and his friends have about made up their minds that the only thing left for them to do is to fight; and just now it appears probable that there will be a drawn battle between Sizer on one side and Ensign on the other, with Tom Cochran, Kimmel, W. L. Brown, A. D. Bnrr, John McClay, and John P. Maule standing by waiting for a chance to squeeze in. There is some talk of a brand new candidate in the Fifth. Judge Lansing will be a candidate for re nomination. His friends are confi dent that his name will be presented to the convention notwithstanding the mixed condition of things in the Fourth ward. When Elmer Stephenson was nominated for city treasurer a third time the nomination was secured on the ground that it was right and proper that he should ise given an opportunity to make up some of the loss incurred by the failure of the Capital National bank. It is well known that Lansing as county judge sustained a loss in the Capital National failure, and it there was a reason f ora third term for Stephenson there is the same reason for a third term for Lansing. Judge Lansing has been unfortunate in many ways during his incumbency and there is a considerable sentiment in favor of giving bim a chance. Lansing has made a good judge. Notwithstanding tho mayor's letter there is a possibility that Bob Malone will have to go. Personally, most of the councilmen would like to have Bud Lindsey ap pointed street commissioner, are afraid. But they Dan Kelley, of tho Sixth ward is an earnest candidate for George Woods says of the report that he is a candidate for clerk of the district court, that it ib a canard. Harry Wells has dead loads of friends who would like to see bim nominated for county clerk. It is thought that any delegation that may be put up in the Fourth ward would be favorable to Wells. Charley Waite's duties in assisting the receiver to wind up tho affairs of the failed bank In Superior, will soon be finished. He is keeping things going at a lively pace now, and when he takes his coat off, which he will do shortly, everybody will know that he is in earnest. Trompen is hard at work in the in terest of hk candidacy for sheriff. He is in town every few days now. Ho says there are too many city candidates for sheriff. PUGILISTIC NOTES Friday night Billy Woods, of Denver, and Jack Slavin, of Australia met in Montreal and fought until stopped by the police in the third round. Jem Smith and Ted Pritchard fought Friday night of last week in London for the heavy-weight championship of Eng land and $1,000 a side. The fight was awarded to Smith in tho second round. "Parson" Davies has replied to Steve O'Donnell's challange by offering to match Joo Choynski against the Aus tralian for $2500 a side, and has depos ited $500 to complete the match which is to take place within ten weeks. "Red" Tinsley, of St Joseph aud "Kid" Saunders of Omaha, welterweights, met at a resort near St Joseph last Friday morning in a finish fight. Tinsley put his man out in the fourth round with a blow on the chin. George Crarey, of St Joseph, and George Wright of Omaha, will fight near St Joseph May 30. Time is a lover When days are long; Blue is the sky above her, And gay the song. Woo thou with gifts and myrrh, Tenderly think of her; That thy faith may be strong; And thy prayers be song, In the land of the wanderer. T. A.Fraser. For Thin Children. Children are always thin and pale when they do not assimilate enough fat This seems strange, perhaps, but it is literally true. Unless there is a healthy as similation of fat food the blood becomes depleted, tissues waste away, vitality becomes low and the body languishes for the need of proper nourishment. Scott's Emulsion is useful to children, -especially in two waTs. It is Cod-, liver Oil emulsionized, thus being easily assimilated and rendered palatable, with the Hypophosphites of Lime and Soda added to tone up the nervous system and nourish the bones. This combination of these potent nutrients is just what thin children need to give them flesh, color and vitality. Almost all children like it Don't be persuaded, to accept a substitute Scott Ml Bowne. New York. AH Druggists. 50c. and 51. Fnr.D Shkphard Attokheyat LXwt SHtfUtr SALE.
