At the meeting of the Political Economy club at the state univer sity Wedneedey night, Mrs. W. J- Bryan read a paper on "The Efficiency of Municipal Government at Home and Abroad." Miss Mary Jones discussed "Corruption in Municipal Government.' At the next meeting to be held two weeks from Wednesday Rev. E. II. Chapin will deliver a lecture on "The Bond of Social Unity." Prof. George 0. Williams gave a complimentary recital at the Funke opera house Tuesday evening that was attended by an im mense audience. A number of state officials graced the audience, anl Senator-elect and Mrs. John M. Thurston, of Omaha, were among the notable persons from out of town. Tho programme in eluded "Old Ace," "Paul Clifford's Defense," by Bulwer Lytton, giving Professor Williams an excellent opportunity to exhibit his oratorical ability; a selection from -"A Midsummer Night's Dream," "The Convict's Christmas Eve."' "The Debating Society," also a very pleasing exposition by the Tableau d'Art company, a violin solo by Miss Bertha Daris, etc, etc. Miss Richardson was announced to lecture at the Nebraska con servatory of music last night on the Yellowstone.Park. Wednesday evening at the university chapel Professor Martinius Sieveking, of the university conservatory of music, gave the second concert in his series of piano recitals. He was assisted by Miss Susie Schotield, pianist. The programme rendered was as follows: Tocatta and Fugue, Bach-Tausig; Peer Gynt Suite, (a) morning, (b) Ases death, (c) Anitras, (d) in the hall of the mountain king, Grieg; Morceaux Characteristiques reverie, expansion Moszkowski; Danse Macabre for two pianos, Miss Susie Schofield, Mr. Sieve king Saint-Saens; Fire Scene From the Gotterdammerung Wagner; Twelfth Raphsodie Liszt. Professor Sioveking was most warmly welcomed and encored, attesting the increasing favor in which the talented musician is held by the people of this city. Mr. H. H. Wilson is in Chicago. This evening at their residence Professor and Mrs. Caldweil will entertain the professor's class in history. The dramatic club of the state university gave a performance at Ashland last night under the euspices of the high school literary society. The plays presented were: "Chums" and "The Open Gate," which will be given in this city shortly. The Olympic whist club met last night at the residence of Mr. A. H. Chapman. Miss Eva O 'Sullivan was elected president of the Sophomore class of the state university at a meeting held Thursday afternoon. Flavel L. Wright was unanimously elected vicj president, Miss Jennie Guile, secretary; and Will Green, treasurer.
