p- &rr 8 THE COURIER V f Mr. and Mrs. E. Lewis Baker entertained a few of their young friends Wednesday evening in honor of the sixteenth birthday of Mrs. linker's sister. Miss Harriet Cook. The crening was pleasantly spent in danciug, music and literary charades. The prize a very pretty hand painted souvenir card was awarded to Miss Sarah Muir for correctly guessing the greatest number of the charades. The following young people were present: Miss Annio and Jennio Stuart, Harriett Muir, Sarah Muir, Jessio Lansing, Ada Closson, Helen Woods, Jessie Pier6on, Harriet,Cook; Messrs. II. S. Evans, Benton Dales, James Stuart, Howard Hallowell, Robert Pierson.Ed. win Roberts m, Edgar TuIHb and Clair Briggs. late hour and then the score was taken and Miss Fay Marshall and Mr. George Woods wero found to be the most successful contestants. Clough, Fred W. Houtz, Will F. Meyer, C. A. Howe, W. E. Clark, Guy Hurlbut, Robert Joyce, Ross Curtice, Will Johnson, Chas. Waito, John Dorgan and Fritz Westermann. Born December 13, to Mr. and Mrs. Walton G. Roberts, a girl. Rev. Joel A. Barker, of Falls City, is in the city attending the meeting of ministers in tho interest of the Wesleyan university. Mrs. J. A. Marshall will return to Denver today. Tne Current Events club met with Mrs. Wilson on Thursday af ternoon. The charity concert committee announce that there are no regul ations on dress to bo observed by those attending the concert. Mrs. L. C. Burr spent Wednesday in Omaha. Miss Mame Carson has returned from a pleasant visit with friendB in Des Moines, la. Mrs. Frank Ladd gave three charming parties during the week. Mrs. J. W. McDonald left for Washington Wednesday. A moat delightful reception was tendered Mrs. Springer of St. Louis, president of the International Board of Women, and Young Women's Christian association, at the residence of Mrs. J. J. Imhoff on Thursday afternoon. Over tive hundred invitations were issued and the large parlors were thronged with ladies the entire afternoon. Mesdames Mark,Tilton, Van Brunt and Misses Jcanetto Underwood, May Underwood and Lucy Griffith served delicious ices. Mr. and Mrs. J, A. Buckstaff entertained the members of tho whiBt club at seven o'clock dinner on Friday evening. Covers were laid for Messrs and Mesdames N. C. Abbott, J. B. Wright, R, A. Perry, E. S. Hawley, E. P. Holmes, J. H. Harley, I. M. Raymond, R. .. Oakley, N. C. Brock, Carl - Funke, S. II. Burnham and Mrs. Robinson, of Chicago. Tho Hayden Art club met at tho homo of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Richards on Tuesday evening. About three nundred of the most cultivated people of the city wero present. Tho plans for the future work of tho club were outlined by Mrs. George Wing, who read a paper on ''The Aims of the Haydon Art club.'' She dwelt upon the need for an art building and suggested many things that tho club might follow to the great advantage of the city. Miss Clara M. Richardson sang "La Gingara" in her usual pleasant manner and for an encore sang a pretty little spring song. Mr. John Randolph sang Dudley Buck's "Sunset,'' and favored the hearers with "Too Young to Love'' in response to h hearty recall. Mrs. Chas Lippin cott was never heard to better advantage than in the "Venzano Waltz" and in Emmotts "Lullaby." Mr. Sieveking piano number Rubinstein's melody in F was played with a beautiful cantabile and a valso do concert by Albeiz. Mrs. P. V. M. Raymond, Mrs. Will Owen Jones and Mrs. Marie Hoover were the accompanists of the evening. At tho Patriarchs dance Wednesday evening at the Lansing hall there were present. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Odgeu Mr and Mrs. S. H. Burnham, Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Raymond, Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Holmes, Mr. and Mrs. Ward, Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Dawes, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Perry, Mr. and Mrs. John B. Wright, Professor Owen, Lieutenant Pershing, Mr. C. H. Gere, Mr. C. A. Hanna, Mr. Will Raymond, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Robinson, of Chicago, Misses Gere, Miss Clark, Miss Miss Roberts and Miss Harris. Mr. Mattson Baldwin were at home to a large number of friends on Wednesday evening. The parlors were prettily deco rated with sniilax and carnations and the dining room with pink and white chrysan themums.
