Probably it was the excitement over the election tbat prevented a greater activity in so ciety. Next week promises much bet ter. A special meeting of the Pleasant Hour club is called for to-day at 12 o'clock at Zehrung's store. Freaso, of Napoleon, Ohio, is in the city, the guest of Austin. Miss Mary Dawes, of Marietta, Ohio, who was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Dawes, left for home yesterday. The Patriarchs will entertain the Empire club at the dance to be given Wednesday evening November 14. The Round Table met Monday evening at the residence of Rev. John Hewitt The subject discussed was "Shall the Jury System be Abolished?"' Mr. Geisthardt led. Mrs. S. H. Burnham entertained a numher of young ladies Friday afternoon iu honor of Miss Alexander of Omaha. The most charming musical event of the season occurred on Wed nesday evening at the beautiful home of Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Burn ham. The house was prettily decorated in chrysanthemums and roses and the universal response to the invitations testified most heartily to the appreciation of those so favored. Mr. and Mrs. Burn ham were assisted in receiving their guests by Mrs. Carl Funke. Mrs Hall and Mrs. Raymond. During the intermission refresh ments were served while the buzz of conversation showed the con geniality of the company. After the recital compliments of the sincerest kind wero bestowed upon Mr. Seiveking who impressed his audience most fully with the high artistic manner of his play ing. His program was artistically chosen and both he and his aud ience understood each other most completely and were in full sympathy. The regular meeting occurs Nov. 12 in room No. 17 Nebraska hall when Miss Richardson will illustrate her trip through the Yellowstone by stereoptician views. The first quarterly concert given by the students of the Nebraska conservatory of music for the present year occurred at the conserva tory Monday evening. The program was opened with the trio ".Lift Thine Eyes"' from Mendelssohn's "Elijah' by the Cecelian choir. The piano numbers were RafTs "La Fileuse" by Miss Naomi Weaver, Bethoven's Sonata op 31 "by Mi6s Rene Smith'" llummel concerto op 89 by Miss Myrtle Anderson, ihe orchestral parts played on second piano by Mr. Gray. Miss Doris Stevenson and Miss Ninon Gentry's duet was well rendered and was one of the best numbers. Mrs. Carter sang a sole in her usual pleasing style. Mr. Meyer Barr and Miss Bertha Davis furnished the violin solos. Miss Pearl Skeen recited "The Lepera" from "Ben Hur". The pro gram closed withaBericsof nosings by Misses Skeen and Young from the tableaux d' art class. The program whs excellent thorough and was enjoyed by a large number. J. A. Marshall has returned to Denver. Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Hathaway who",havo been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Muir left for Denver Friday. Miss Lizzie Morton of Nebraska City, who has been Miss Flor ence Hawloy's guest for the past week left for her home Thursday Miss .Barker of Omaha has issued invitations for a party to be given in honor of Miss Rachael Brock. One of the jolliest parties of the week was the Ravola hop at tj:e Lansing hall last evening. The parties given by this club are always delightful and this being the opening dance it was except ionally enjoyable. The gowns worn by the young ladies were par ticularly fetching, the music was enchanting, and altogether it was a very pleasant affair. The dancers were Misses, Martha Burks, Stella Elliott, Jessie Leland, Florence Winger, Daisy Cochran, Florence Farwell, Eva Bicketts, Josephine Lottridge, May Moore, Stella Curtice, Grace Huntsinger, Lottie Whedon, Maude Shaw, Ada Heaton, Ethel Hooper, Grace Ashton, Emerald Jones, Sadie Greshara, Lucy Griffith and Messrs Case Edwards, of Chicago; Frank Askin, Park Garoutte, Alfred Fussy. Ora Ward, Ciato Shader, Elmer Merrill, Johnston, Clare Young, Hebard, Duff, Andrews, Hamer, Harry Grupe, Frank Kitchen, Frank Hadley Ralph Winger, Arthur Walsh, Wilson Winger and Harry Harley.
