Mrs. Frank Sheldon leaves on Thursday for her home in New
accompanied by her two sons.
Mrs. Henry Zehrung has gone to West Point, Nebraska, for a few
weeks visit with friends.
It is reported that a well known bank cashier in this city is soon
to wed.
Mrs. A. G. Beeson entertained a few friends at luncheon ou Wed
nesday. Four small tables were daintily trimmed in white carna
tions and maiden hair ferns, and the same color schemo, (white and
delicate green) was carried out in serving the luncheon. The fol
lowing ladies partook of Mrs Beeson's hospitality. Mrs. A. S. Ray
mond, Mrs. John B. Wright, Mrs. Wm. Leonard, Mrs. Bruce Coff
roth, Mrs. Frank Sheldon, Mrs. Lippincot, Mrs. Hargreaves, Mrs.

A very, pretty but quiet wedding ceremony was solemnized Wed
nesday evening at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Bowers
Fourteenth and D streets, when their eldest daughter, Miss Mamie,
was united in marriage to Mr. Alva Townsend by Rev. Dr. Lasby of
St. Paul's Methodist church. The ceremony occurred promptly at
S:30 o'clock after which a wedding supper was served. At about 10
o'clock the happy couple departed to their new homo at 1611 E
street, which had been furnished in readiness for their arrival.
Both young people are well aud favorably known in Lincoln having
lived here a number of years. Mr. and Mrs. Townsena will be at
home to their friends after July 1st.
IN OMAHA.
Much regret is expressed at the untimely end of Mr. F. N. Vail,
city passenger agent ot the Burlington route in this city. On Sat
urday afternoon he was operated upon for a cancerous tumor and
after much suffering death came to his relief Sunday evening at six
o'clock. Mr. Vail was always genial and very courteous and had
many warm personal friends. Much sympathy is felt for his wk'ow
and child who survive him.
Dainty in every respect was the anniversary luncheon given by
Mrs. C. W. Hall on Saturday last. Her guests were: Mrs. Offutt,
Miss McKenna, Miss Nash, Miss Yates, Miss Bcssio Yates, Miss
Laura Hoagland and Mable Balcombe. In the centre of the highly
polished table rested a large cut glass bowl laden with bride roses,
while at the end were vases filled with tho same flowers.
In honor of Capt and Mrs. J. C. Ayres, Mr. and Mrs. Gifford gave
a very pretty dinner last Friday evening. Those present were: Capt.
and Mrs. Ayres, Mr. and Mrs. Kilpatrick, Miss Rodman and Dr.
Bridges.
Gen. O. O. Howard was the guest of Judge and Mrs. Woolworth
the latter part of last week.
Miss Balcombe left for New York over the Wabash Sunday after
noon. She will sail for Antwerp on the 13th, on tho "Noorland.'
Saturday afternoon many friends dropped in to wish her bon
voyage.
Mr. C. W. Lyman who took a flying trip to Texas is expected back
early noxt week.
Miss Barnard left Friday for Davenport, Iowa, where sbo will be
the guest of Miss VanPatten.
Mr Clifford A. Smith left Sunday evening for the east. . He will
spend the summer months with his family at Rockland, Maine.
Mrs. Bennett, wife of Lieut. Chas. A. Bennett, 3rd artillery, is the
guest of Dr. and Mrs. Peabody.
Major-and Mrs. Charles I. Wilson and Miss Wilson, enrouts from
San Francisco to Washington, are at the Paxton.
Mr. Lester O. Peck, late of San Francisco, is the guest of Mr.
Charles Houston Wilson at the Bachelors Quarters.
In honor of Capt. and Mrs. Ayres, Mr. and Mrs. James McKenna
entertained at cards on Wednesday evening. High five was the
game played. Those present were Mr. Prichett, Miss Lyman, Mr.
Wilson and Mr. Lyman Richardson.
Mrs. J. C. Ayres and Miss Rodman will be tho guests of Miss Mc
Kenna from Thursday until the date of their departure from Omaha
Miss Rodman leaving Monday evening for St. Paul, while Capt. and
Mrs. Ayres start the following day for New York.
Mrs. Robt. Clarkson left last week to spend the summer in the
east.
Mrs. Guy C. Barton returned from the east on Tuesday.
Mrs. Charles W. Hull entertained the cooking club Wednesday
afternoon. - -T
Miss Hall, Miss Doane's guest, left for her home in Minneapolis
on Monday.
On Monday evening quite a number of friends dropped in on Mr.
and Mrs. Dan H. Wheeler Jr., to help celebrate their wedding anniversary.
I have just learned that Capt. Crowder and Lieut. Quay expect to
sail for Europe about August 1st, they will be gone three months.
"The Tramps' those members of the Omaha Guards who went
into camp near California Junction ten days ago, havo returned to
Omaha. They had many visitors while under canvas and all who
dropped in upon them were treated to a royally good time.
The grounds of the Omaha Lawn Tennis club have been well till
ed with visitors every afternoon and evening this week. The play
ing for the city championship has been remarkably good in'the
doubles as well as in the singles. One very excellent feature about
this year,s tournament is the allowing of young woman to partici
pate in the sport. Although this will go to press before the games
will have ended, still I shall again pick Cullingham as the winner in
the singles.
