Mr. Griffith,
HURSDAY, May 10, at tho Lansing theater,
tho company which Mr. Ed A. Church has
organized and now controls, will give tho first
performance of "Faust" preparatory to leav
ing on a two months' trip to the Pacitic
coast. Rehearsals are now going on and a
most adequate and elaborato presentation is
assured. Scenically, the production will
probably bo tho finest "Faust" over seon,
over 810,000 being invested in scenory and
effects. Tho. members of tho company aro
all experienced people, and under tho leader
ship of Mr. John Griffith, ono ot the most
able and promising young actors of tho pres
ent day. Goetho's play will bo artictically
rendered. Irvine's revision will bo used.
who will appear as Mephisto, is well known in this city.
Martha, was with Booth and Barret, and was last scon in Lincoln
as the Nurse jn the Cragen-Paulding production of "Romeo and

Ho has been starring in "Faust" for two years. Miss Allie Martin,
Marguerite, was Sol Smith Russell's leading lady; Mrs. VandenhofT,
Juliet," Mr. Collins, Faust, was formerly with Booth and Modjeska;
Mr. William Lawrence Roberts was with Lewis Morrison for three
years. Ho will play Valentine. Mrs. Seaton, of this city, will play
Siebl. Three specially gifted vocalists have been engaged for the
students. Mr. Church is confident that his company will give the
best "Faust" seen. Griffith, it is admitted, has no superior as
Mephisto. W. W. Cole will be business manager and F.H. Mathews
general agent of the company. Tho performance Thursday night
will be a benefit for Mr. Church and Mr. Griffith.
News for the ladies Messrs C. E Van Dusen and R. J Brydon
have opened a wholesale and retail millinery house at the Windsor
hotel, where they will be pleased to have the ladies of Lincoln call
on them.
