New York. June 12, Prices la al
most all marketa moved downward
today with somewhat unusual unani
mity, tvtn in the market for in
vestment bonds, although the United
States war loans held earlicu arlv
firm, fractional declines were the
rule. In the ttock market, weak
nett wat common to all groups of
thares, the day't loitet running to
2 or J points in a good part oi the
list and closing prices being not far
Irom the lowest. Foreign exchange
lost ground somewhat rapidly, even
sterling ending a lull cent low,
Wheat prices fell 45c per bushel
lor tne various deliveries, spot cot
ton declined nearly lie per pound.
On the whole, the most impres
sive thing about this general reac
tion was the absence of any very
serious discomposure as a result of
It. Intelligent financial observers
had been so one: aware of the ex
tent to which speculation for the
rise, of an unstable sort, had played
t part in the more recent rise on the
stock market and the cotton market,
for instance, that the movement
could hardly have taken them by
surprise.
Crop Outlook Good,
In tha wheat markat last month's fall
urs or lbs effort to put up prices for
delivery of old crop grsln hss bsd a
neceessry bearing on the prices for do.
livery from a new crop, which at pressnt
nromlses extremely well.
Whatever anyone's ballet msy be as te
the longer result of the bankore' with
drawal at Paris from present considera
tion of a Oerman foreign loan. Its senti
mental effect on the foreign exchangs
market could naturally not be favorable.
Such slmultsneoue reaction In sit 'the
markers hss some times occurred because
of audden .and highly unfsvorsbla news
or because of a "money equeexe ' or, sa in
November of 1120. because of both. But
except for the Oerman altuatlon, nothing
has changed from a week ago, and as
for tha money market the assy condition,
present and prospective, wss emohsslsed
todsy by a decline In domestlo scceptanes
bills to the extremely low ratea of SVt
per cent and In stock sxchsnge cell rates
to l psr cent.
Money Market Easy.
Measured by Its highest, lowest and
generally ruling rstes. the dsy's call,
money market waa distinctly the sssleet
elnce midsummer of lilt. What the day's
course of prices In tns speculstlvs mar
keta aetuslly Indicated was a concerted
"drive" by professional operators for ths
decline, with the purpose of taking ad
vantage or a position wnoss nsture every
wlde-swsks person understood.
Stocks of sll descriptions hsd a psrt
In ths dsy's decline. Rsllway shares Buf
fered the lesst, yet even they lost 1 to
I points In several Inatances. As wss to
be expected under all the circumstances,
the gresteat decllnea occurred In such
quarters as the "oil atocka," ths motor
stocks" and ths - "Independent steel
shares" In which the recent achievements
of the so-called "sfjole," sfter the real out-
aiae puono naa left ths market, were
paruvuisriy venturesome.
