Republicans who died aeainst the proposition were '.oi ah, Capper, Ladd, La . Follcttc.V Morris and Willis. j In opening debate on the army j strength. Mr. Wadsworth declared t l.e committee believed 'rock bot tom" had been reached : 1 that to make further reductions vould im pcril not only the army organization is contemplated by the organization act of 1920, but create a menacing situation for the country in event ot unforeseen trouble. It would be ' utterly foolish," he added, to "man k!c the skeleton" of the army so that it could not be revived in an emer gency. Mr. Wadsworth referred to the seacoast fortifications, saying only 25 of the 75 were now manned and that a further cut in the forces would leave an additional ten or a dozen in the hands of caretakers. Hitchcock Replies. Senator Hitchcock, democrat, Ne braska, replying to this statement, contended the country would approve a cut in the army even below the hour'c figure and added: "Our army is efficient. It is able to do more than the work it has to do now. What Ac people want is relief from the burden of taxes' and they would be willing to take a smaller army to (ret that relict." Senators Xorris, republican, Ne braska, and King, democrat, Utah, also spoke in opposition to the larger army, but Senator Borah, re publican, Idaho, a leading exponent of the small army, announced that he did not desire to drag the ques tion into a long controversy, being willing entirely "to take a vote and settle it now." An attempt was made by Senator Hitchcock to eliminate what he de scribed as "pure waste of money" in supplying $135,000 for the operation oi ir.c .-sprmgneia (Alass.J arsenal, where it was proposed to spend a thousand dollars a day in manufac turing rifles when the government now has 2,800,000 in store, he said. He was defeated, however, 49 to 18, after Mr. Wadsworth bad declared that was the only place where the army rifle" was now made. llk.iiur, III. Fraud Charged in Naming Receiver of Skinner Firm Attorney Relinked for 'Intem perate'" Statement, Then l'raiseil for Pleading iu Injunction Hearing. Charges that Keith Neville, for mer governor of Nebraska, was ap pointed receiver of the Skinner rack ing company by fraud were made Saturday before Federal Judge Woodrough by (j. P. North, attorney ior Sam l.ytlick, and other stock holders opposing the receivership. The judge rebuked North for bis "intemperate" statement and for in cluding in bis pleadings "redundant and scurrilous matter." Woodrough tempered his rebuke, however, with the statement the oung attorney bad "clearly pleaded and forcibly impressed the court." North fust voiced his fraud charge late yesterday in the presence of Arthur Mullen, attorney for Neville. Mullen offered to "meet North out s.idc." Following bis statement today Judge W'oodrotiffli granted the in junction sought by Mullen, enjoin ing l.ytlick and other stockholders from proceeding any further in the sjate courts with action to recover certain notes. The receiver is justi fied in seeking to collect on stock holders' notes by his duty to li quidate the company's affairs, the judge ruled. North then attempted to obtain supersedeas bonds peudvig an appeal but the judge denied it on grounds it would be incompatible with his ac tion in granting the restraining order. v n f3 Z- i Goods Sold Out of Town On easy term.
