(Special Telegram.) A man believed to be John Gaines. 52, Casper, Vyo., was discovered lying near the North western railroad tracks in an un conscious condition about 4 Monday afternoon and failed to regain his sensts until he woke up in the Fre mont hospital about 11:30 this morn ing! Physicals believe Gaines was suffering for want of food when he dropped to the ground in an uncon scious state. Police believe that he was roaming through the country on foot; " ' ; Beatrice Honors Heroes Beatrice, Neb., May 29. (Special.) Memorial days wa generally ob served in Beatrice. In the morning tlic graves of the fallen heroes v.crc decorated, and in the aft ernoon Dr. J. Franklin" Haas de livered, the principal address at Ath letic park. Between one and four inches of rain, plenty of hail and one cyclone scare wa the weather offer ing Monday night, and farmers re siding in the vicinity of Prairie Cen ter, twelve miles northeast, are tak ing an inventory today to determine their wind losses, which are not ex pected to be heavy. But they experi enced quite a scare, two cyclonic looking clouds hovering over the community late yesterday, hut at no time dipping to or sweeping the ground. Hail aUo fell in that locality and on west to Riverdale, hut the damage resulting is believed to have been light. L p the "high line, as far as Ocon to. the average rainfall was two inches. In the Loup valley, both east and went from l'lcasanton. three inches of rain is reported. Minden and the surrounding country, south, record ed nearly four inches. West of Kear ney a two-inch average will maintain. Locally, the precipitation exceeded one inch, with the total rainfall for the past 30 days being over four niches. A cool wave followed the rain. Neb.. Mav 30. (Special.) Guy Thorngatc, 30, residing a few miles west of North Loup, disap peared Saturday and although word of lu's disappearance has been broadcast throughout the state, no trace of him has been found. He drove to North Loup Saturday to attend services at the Seventh Day church and left his family at the nome ot his father, promising to join them later. Instead he went to the bank, drew what money he had, emptied his, safe deposit box. and left town by auto about noon. Members of the family report that there has been no trouble of any kind although they have noticed he was despondent of late. . y Scotia, Neb., Honors Dead With Fitting Exercises Scotia. Neb.. Reuben Beck post, American Ltgion, had charge of the services at the cemetery. , The soldiers' graves were covered with flowers. There was a military salute by the firing squad and "taps" was sounded. The afternoon meeting was held in the high school auditorium with music by Ammerman s orchestra, singing, a reading of Lincoln's Gettysburg address by Miss Gladys West and a splendid oration by Rev.
