Gluing Furniture
and Other
Articles
By JEAN TRUE.
M!M Tr wilt answer all qu..!lnn tin
hmhol4 art addrasaed la hr at Th
II-.
Women are learning to handle
tools and are mending and repairing
their own furniture these day. Col
lege courses have done much to help
women to be self-reliant in many
household duties. Women work
tide by tide with men in manual
arts classes and often give their
opposites a good hustle to keep up
with them in quality of work per
formed. Learn to glue your own furniture
and not have it loose and creaky or
wait to have it repaired or relega'ed
to the attic because of neglect to
repair it at the right time.
The process is not a difficult one
to perform. First free the surfaces
to be glued from old glue and from
any particles of loose wood or dust
that might tend to keep surfaces from
holding together. Second, the glue
must be just thick .enough tc spread
nicely, neither too thick to spread
nor spread on too thickly.
The two surfaces or parts must be
fastened very firmly and held se
curely together until the glue
hardens.
Have some device for fastening the
parts together. This may be accom
plished by means of strong cords or
bands of cloth if you have no vise.
Scrape off old glue, sandpaper sur
faces, apply thin coat of glue to both
parts, bring them together perfectly,
fasten securely and let stand for 48
hours or more. Remove any glue
that may have adhered or oozed from
the joining.
Be careful to purchase a good qual
ity of glue. It is possible to make
your own glue, but it is not practi
cal as home-made glue loses strength
by frequent heatings.
Liliputian Sale.
St. Annes guild of St. Martins
church will hold a liliputian sale all
day Wednesday at Trinity parish
house. Infants' clothes will be of
fered for sale, including beautiful
hand-made dresses, dainty undergar
ments and knitted articles. Tea will
be served. . f
Doll bags, made with tiny and
fascinating doll heads and arms,
dressed in quaint little frocks of
black or of figured silk, are enchant
ing. They are really large enough
to be useful, too.
Problems That Perplex
Answered by
BEATRICE FAIRFAX.
Ixve Overcomes Misfortune.
Dear Miss. Fairfax: Am coming
to you for a little advice and hope
you will print it in The Morning
Bee. I have been, going with a
young man for two years who had
Ills right hand cut off in a corn
sheller. Now, we are both of age,
but my father objects to my going
with him. Do you think it is right
for him to object, as we love each
other very much? Now, he seems
to be a little backward In popping
the question on this account. How
could I make him feel that nothing
could keep us apart, CELIA.
I admire you for not permitting a
misfortune to influence your regard
for this young man. I think you can
find ways, without suggestion from
me, of letting him know that you 'do
care for him. Give him a little time
and, if he wishes to propose, he will.
"Marriage Problems."
Dear Miss Fairfax: Can the
splendid serial, "My Marriage Prob
lems," by Adele Garrison, be pur
chased in book form, and, If so,
where? I would like to have it in
our library- MRS. B. A.
I think this serial Is not published
in book form. You might write the
King Feature Syndicate, 241 W. 58th
St., New York City, about it
Interested: The article you men
tion appeared on the editorial page
of The Bee and was credited to the
New York Evening Post. The Post is
therefore responsible for the state
ments made. The matter is clear to
me from the context, however, and I
think it should be to you. Evidently
a committee of New York school
teachers investigated history text
books and made a report to their
superintendent Their opinion, final
ly, was that fairness does not re
quire historians to expatiate on the
weaknesses of American statesmen.
The article says that it is possible
to Indicate that there were some
good Englishmen in England in 1776
without at the same time belittling
the characters or pointing out actual
weaknesses of men who were promi
nent in our own affairs. As for
proof ot what the weaknesses of our
statesmen were, I can only refer you
to historic authorities.
Heartbroken: If this woman la a.
devout Catholic, I doubt if she will
marry you. In the eyes of her
church, you, being divorced, are yet
married man, ghe would be ex
communicated from her church if
she married you. You may mean
more to her than her church, but I
doubt It, from what you have told
me.
An things stand you can take your
choice of going with this woman
merely for the pleasure of her so
ciety. Or. you can quit her entirely,
unless Bhe gives some sign of keep
ing her promises. Doubtless she en
joys your company and you have
evidently been very good to her.
Perhaps she hasn't always been per
fectly fair with you, a human trait
after all. You are both at an age
where it Is difficult to marry and be
happy. You are well set in your
own ways and ideas and you both
have children. These are complica
tions, indeed. She is fault-finding
and you are dissatisfied. Unless the
bond is very strong and your regard
for her very deep, you might better
break away. You will have to de
cide for yourself, however.
Scotrie: Don't deceive your
mother. You are too young to go
regularly with boys, but perhaps you
can persuade your mother that the
occasional society of a fine 'young
man Is desirable.
Mrs. C. E.: Your letter was very
interesting. You did not make it
clear to me, however, whether you
believed mixed race marriages may
be happy. Is yours?

HEALTH THE SECRET OF
ATTRACTION
Women of today depend a good
deal upon the modern modiste and a
knowledge of the cosmetic art to
make them attractive. Too often
there exists beneath it all a suffering
woman whose nervous laugh or
forced smile covers a pang of agony
caused by some feminine ill. To such
a woman Lydia E. Pinkliam's Vege
table Compound will bring health and
happy relief from her suffering, that
will make her far more attractive than
costly gowns and cosmetics.
For nearly fifty years American
women have relied upon this root
and herb medicine to relieve their
ailments.
