Motor Cop, Pride
Stable, Won Handsome Purses
a t Recent Tijuana Race Meet
his colors of red
Motor Cop was formerly owned
by the great Canadian sportsman
Commander J. K. L. Ross. During
his three and four-year-old form
there was not a horse on this conti
nent that could outrun him at equal
weights. Irwin opened negotiations
to purchase the great son of Colin
last fall anU finally closed the deal.
It cost the Wyoming horseman a
pretty penny to get him $7,000. to
be exact. However, he was a cheap
horse at that price for he won the
Los Angeles highwcight and the
speed handicaps at Tijuana last win
ter and burnished up his record on
Mexican soil by winning the bounti
ful sum of $5,100 in purses.
In winning these feature races at
Tijuana, Motor Cop was forced to
pack top weikht. The handicapper,
knowing his extreme speed, took no
chances with him with the result
that he was asked to tote the crushi
ing impost of 140 pounds in the Los
Golf Ikcfs
Q. Is it permissible for a player to
take a short hold on his club when put
ting, that . iP, one hand down near the
iron part and the other a foot ar so up?
It seems to me this would tend to shov
ing; the ball.
A. There are no renlnctlmm a to
place or method of rrtppin th club, so
long as the player hits, and does not
shore or scrape the ball. -
Q. Are there any well-known"" profes
sionals in this country who turned Vro
fessionals after becoming: prominent as
amateurs?

attained any real prominence.
Q. In medal play A plays on to the
green and his ball stops so clnso to Bs
ball that A is unable to putt accurate
ly without moving B s ball by the stroke,
What is the proper procedure, and Is there
any penalty?
A. Either player ts entitled to haTe the
other hall lifted without penalty; that
Is, If B ts away. A must lift his ball or
play It, If requested.
Q. Where a player plays stroke, say
for example, an approach to the green,
sees his ball stop, but does not walk im
mediately to the green, possibly stop
ping to help his opponent hunt his ball,
then later, on reaching the green, is un
able to find his ball, can he drop or place
snotber ball as near as possible to where
the first was seen .0 stop?
A. No. Inless be saw something or
somebody actually remove the hall, the
case must h treated as a lost ball and
played arcordirtarty.
Q. Am I right in my Interpretation
of the answer to a recent query that
where a player strikes a ban as It rolls
from the tee. the stroke does not count?
A. No. If, while a player is 111 the act
of making bis swing, the ball rolls from
the tea, and ha continues the swing and
hits the ball, K la tn play and he stroke
counts, hot there is no penalty for pur
ine ft ball that is snaring.
