weather condition favorable a num
ber of the record will undoubtedly
be 'haltered.
There will be three dUtinct cham
pionships in this year' meet: Group 1
one, school having ail enrollment i
under 100 pupil: group two, chooli '
having an enrollment from 100 to j
275; group three, school t having an!
enrollment above 275. Four place
will be counted in each event, but 1
each ichonl will be limited to two

awarded first, lecond and third places
in each event. Special medal will he

the higheat score regardless of

ed each team that placet first,
second or third in the total points.
A special relay banner will be given
to the team making the best time.
Should Lower Records.
With the results of the Grand
Island, Broken Bdw and Masting
interscholastic, the results show that
the "prep" lads are going at record
breaking speed, and if the fact of the
state meet does not worry defeat.out
of suclv men as De Maranville of
Aurora, Rhodes of Anslcy, Weir of
Superior, Beerkle of Central, Rod
well of Cambridge, and Greenslit of
Hastings, these athletes should come
close to lowering the state record.
Rhodes of Anslcy has twice bet
tered the state record in the bread
jump when he jumped 22 feet 2 1-2
inches in the Broken Bow meet, and
21 feet 7 1-2 inches in the Hastings
meet. The Ansley boy will cut in
strong S.tturt'iy if he confines to
his field events as he will be a hard
man to beat on his specialties, the
, broad jump, pole vault and high
jump. Tryba of Columbus, winner
of the 100-yard last year, is going
good and ran a neat 100- yards in the
Hastings meet against a strong wind.
Beerkle uncorked some record
breaking meets at the annual track
and field meet in Omaha last week.
. Hastings Going Good.
Whether the Beatrice 1921 cham
pions can produce again is doubtful,
as all teams look strong up to this
time. Hastings High school has won
two interscholastics and one triangu
lar meet this year, and although
there are no sure first place men.
Coach Newman has been counting
on seconds and odd places for his
total points. Greenslit has been work
ing a nice quarter mile nd has not
been pushed this year. De Maran
ville of Aurora has been winning
both mile and half mile this season
and the little runner will be hard to
. beat Saturday as he is going1 good. '
The relay race should hold the
thrills of the meet as all schools
seem to be fortified with speedy
quartets. The Fremont team clipped
it off at 1:36 at Hastings last Satur
day, which slashed the previous state
record by 2-5 of a second. Colum
bus, Friend and. Hastings pushed the
winner strong.-

Lincoln, Neb., May 10 (Special
Telegram) The University of- Ne
braska baseball team overcame the
Washington team here Tuesday af
ternoon and revenged itself for the
ten-frame defeat at the hands of the
St. Louis team Monday by .poling
its way to an 8 to 5 victory over the
visitors. Munger, twirling for the
Scarlet and Cream, allowed the vis
itors but five hits and equal nurhber
of tallies, several of which were occa
sioned by Husker errors. '.
I he Cornhusker nine was able to
slash out 11 bingles, and by careful
base running was able to get a safe
lead early in the game. Ziegen-
bein s handling of the willow was a
feature of the day. Pizer Carr and
Smaha also did some excellent stick
work. - ,
Carr, for Nebraska and Edgar for
Washington, stirred the stands by
four-play clouts over the rightfield
fence. Thomsen smashed the only
three-base hit of the game while
Zicgenbein, Carr and Shanley each
went to second on long slashes

Morvich in First
Workout at Louisville
. " -i
Louisville, Ky., May 10. Morvich,
Benjamin' Block's nominee for the
Kentucky derby, was sent five
eighths of a mile at Churchill Downs
yesterday in a workout and at the
finish as one turfwriter expressed it,
he was 1 not blowing ard enough
to put out a match." -
Hundreds of critics watched his
stride, which they . called faultless.
While he did not appear to be more
than cantering, stop watches caught
him at the eighth of a mile in :11 4-5,
three eighths :38 2-5, the half :48 4-5
and the five-eighths of a mile in
1:04 2-5. Trainer Fred Burlew an
nounced that, the trial had been sat
isfactor-y and that he would be given
more of it tomorrow.!, ':
After watching the colt work, turf
men aeain had only, one Question to
ask, "can he stay for a mile and
a quarter?" the derby distance. Both
Block and Burlew declared they had
no fear on. that score.
