Louisville, Ky.. May 9. The re newal of the Kentucky derby will at tract record-breaking crowd Saturday- . . 1'nblic Interest hi been atimuuted by the noiibility that an animal to topple the wonder horse of the cen tury, Man O' War. from hi pedestal, hat been uncovered in Morvich. the marvelous J-year-old son of Runny mede and Hymir. i So much has been written about Morvich that he is ' the strongest favorite for the Kentucky classic, and probably will attain the eminence which has come to few of being an odd-oit favorite in a blig classic derby-starting held. Always Finishes First Of course, there are wise men of the turf who doubt Morvich. But Morvich has yet to see a horse in front of him at the finish. Many of the doubters look with favor on the Lexington stables Lucky Hour. The showing made by this son cf Ferole or Hourless Lucky Latch in the Tip-Top purse at Havre de Grace has gained him many follow ers. Though blocked many times in the early running, he came with a tremendous burst of speed at the turn for home, to win hard held. 1 he only question is whether or not Lucky Honr can carry his speed over a distance. . The Tip-Top purse was only five and one-half furlongs, while the derby distance is a mile and one quarter. . Another entry in. the derby that is attracting .considerable attention among the racing fraternity is Good Times, son of Theo Cook-Bounty, .who is i J. S. Cosden entry. . Good Times Looks Good. - Good Times has stepped many a sharp half-mile this spring and his workouts at a mile have been im pressive. " . " . - . , Whiskaway, son of , Whisk Broom 11, Inaugural, is probably the most formidable entry of the Mary Payne Whitney . stable, though Olympus made a 1iit with the rail birds by his race at Havre de Grace,, when, at a mite and 70 yards, he stood Hungabuck, one of the most danger ous handicap horses, on his hubd, ;nd then took Boniface in a stretch heat him. The sire of Olympus is Rogale'' Age, an -English horse, while his dam, Paradise .11,. is American. . Many fo!lowers,of the track have expressed their opinion that OlyiH pus' showing at Havre de Grace was the most impressive performance any derby candidate . has shown this spring. . . - - - - Tales, til II; Denver, Colo.. Year round golf in a northerly climate is enjoyed by devotees ' of the sticks and bag? here' on . the . 18-hole course of the Riverton Country club. Even winter fail's to stop the game. v According to Charles C. Miller, one of the members, this condition is due to the peculiar sandy soil over which the course is laid out. Half an hour after a severe rain -the- course is ready for playing;, so'" rapid is the absorption. At zero the course re mains indifferent to the weather, in viting those with hardy constitutions and warm clothing to "tee off." Dinah Wright Pitches Laurel to Victory Laurel defeated Coleridge, .1 to 0. in an 11-inning game Sunday, due largely to the effective pitching of Dinah Wright. Omaha yemi-oro. and the hard hitting of Teck and Wal ters. It was Wright's first start this season and he showed all his old-time stuff. An Joe Steelier, former world's heavy weight champion wrestler, and Charlie Hanson, protege of "Far mer" Burns, yesterday signed articles for a finish match in Omaha next July. Saints Win Second Game of Series, 8-5 League Leaders Take Advan tage of Wigiugton in Early . Innings and . Cop Contest. The St. Joseph Saints again dem onstrated to local fans yesterday aft ernoon just why they top thtf West ern league standings. ' The demon stration on the part of visitors cost the Omaha Buffaloes 'the second game of the scries, the score being 8 to S against the herd. Manager Smith's league leaders took advantage of "Wig" Wiging ton, youthful Omaha hurler, in the first five "innings of the game and scored enough runs to win the con test. But, just for good measure, the Sa.nts registered two more tallies in the sixth, making their total for the afternoon eight. ,Wigington Starts. Barney Burch started Wigington. He was wild, allowing four bases on balls and allowing 10 hits. In the fifth the Saints found "Wig" for three runs on four hits and a passed hall, when Barney sent Gibson to the mound. He lasted one and a third innings, during which he was touched for two runs and a pair of hits. " After the Saints had won the game, Burch insterterj himself in the line up as pitcher and checked the bom bardment of St. Joseph hits. Grover pitched the first six in nings lor he saints and showed good control until the sixth, when he walked his first man. ' 1 he Butla loes got to -him for three runs and a total of 10 hits, of which one was a triple by Lee, and two doubles by Uranthanl. In the sixth, Grantham doubled to right and Lingle walked. Grover was derricked and McCall rushed to the rescue. The latter hit Burch, the first local up and then tighten ed, holding the Buffaloes to one lone single. : , . Score Two Runs. In the sixth, Grantham doubled to right and Lingle walked.. Things be gan to look bad for Grover and Mc Call was ru9hed to theTescue. The latter hit Burch, the first Buffalo up,, and . then made Gislason ground out, Grantham scoring ;on; the play and Lingle taking third.' Wilcox sent a high sacrifice fly out. to the right garden, and, Lingle scored the final Omaha tally.- .-''.'' : Manush then singled to right and McCall tightened, .holding the Buf faloes hitless . f or the remainder of the game. ; ' Dempsey Leaves Paris for London Today Paris, May 9. (By 'A. P.) After postponing his departure from Paris several tim, -Jack -Dempsey finally made - up . his mind to break away from the attractions of the French capital and leave for London this afternoon. He spent the morning shopping and returning the visits of friends. , Among his purchases were several quarts of exotic perfumes. "I'm glad it's all over," he said, as he started to pack his trunk. . Packed House to See Carp-Lewis Go London, May 9. Jack Dempsey's contingent is backing Carpentier 3 to 1 in the scrap with Ted Lewis next Thursday. - That is the surest indication that the Frenchman will be the victor in the contest Thursday. Ticket sales assured a packed house in the giant stadium, showing that there are still many loyal back ers of Lewis, the "last real hope of theeBritish pugilistic world.
