"Kid" Schlaifer has dropped
from the spotlight Now it's Jack
Brit ton and "Cowboy" Padgett
However. Schlaifer plana to get
back into the public's eye by run
ning for sheriff. The "Kidr' aays
he would like to run for that
office.
Barnum was right.
Monday's vacation for the Oina
l.a Buffaloes ilidn't affect them any.
They came back yesterday and trim
med the Wilchita Witches.
The great trouble with rainy days
in baseball is that the players sit
around and win conversational pen
nant. Two days' rain in succession
gives a ball club so much ' oppor
tunity for mental speculation that it
sometimes takes a couple of defeats
to put them in the proper state of
mind again.
Barney should be thankful it didn't
rain yesterday.
Joe Berger, manager of the
Wichita club, aays that his club
has several old nicknames that are
standbys, namely Witches and
Izzies, but the latest is Isbergs, in
honor of Owner Isbell and himself.

Schlaifer to Forego Ambition
to Run for Sheriff and Tame
Omaha's Gunmen and Stickups
NSIDE the 40' (.inch
chrit of Morris
Schlaifer smoulders
a new ambition. It
is to wear shiny
gold star on which
is inscribed "Sheriff,
Douglas county,
Ncbraka." and tote
a heavy firearm.
' . But, temporarily,
the "Kid" mini forego his latest am
bition to continue mauling welter
weights. Schlaifer has been making inquir
ies for several days on how to break
into the political ring, but last night
had decided to defer announcing his
candidacy for sheriff for a few years.
The "Kid" believes he would be s
terror to ringmen, though.
"Say, some of the) siickup men
make me tired. I'd like to get 'me'
mitts on one of 'em once and poliih
off his dome with the blunt end oi
f bus speaks the "Kid."
"Aw, huh up; you dan't know
what you're talking about," says Mrs.
Schlaifer. who is more or let of the
"boss" around the Schlaifer houe
hold. "You won't run for sheriff now or
in the future, and you know it."
Thus speaks Mrs. Schlaifer.
But the "Kid" insists he'd be doing
the public a greet favor to tame
some of Omaha's gunmen and
"stickups."
