Tht force of Sun Yat Sen, head of
the Southern Chine government, at
Canton, have captured the entire
Southern naval Kjuadron. It wai
stated in unofficial dispatches pub
liihed here today by the foreign and
Chinese press.

Manchuria, and General Wu Pei-Fu,
military leader of Central China,
was reported to extend along a line
from Machang, 20 miles south of
Tien Tsin to a point just south of
Peking.

There was artillery firing in the
vicinity af Marco Polo bridge, which
spans the River 'Yungting Ho near
the west gate of Lu-Kou-Chiao. The
latter place is a little more than four
miles from Changsintien. 0
The firing opened along a front
extending from Changsintien, 120
miles southwest of Peking to a point
30 miles due south. Both armies
are entrenched along the Peking
Hankow railroad, with Wu-Pei Fa's
base at Pao Ting Fu. The artillery
firing was heard distinctly in Peking
and thousands of people, including
manv foreigners, mounted the city
j walls, from which the smoke of the
1 battlefield was visible,

but with the dawn a brisk cannonade
began, the city rousing to the
mounting sound. Some American
ventured out to the race track west
of Peking, where ' they saw
Changtso-Lin' troops directing ar

ptetion of construction on more than
50 mile of road, embracing five
projects, submission of two new
projects and further inspection or re
vision of plans for several project
already submitted, are contained tn
the monthly report of the ate de
partment of public works. No new
projects are listed as Having been
accepted by the government. .
J he projects upon which construc
tion is about concluded are the
Supenor-Harvard-Minden, 22.4 miles;
Nehsh-south, 5.58 miles: tenter-
North. 674 miles: Lone Pine-Aine
worth, 7.76 miles, and Central City
Chapman, 9.33 miles. All are of
earth, aand and clay formation.
The list of new projects include
Oakland-South Sioux City. 1.9 mile
of and. clay and gravel, and Norfolk.
Ewins-. 5.95 miles of sand clay. Plans
are beinor revised on the latter, as well
as on the Dorchester-friend, Ben
nett-South, Arnold-Merna and Flor
nr Heicht nroiecie.
