Japanese Interests and locals which waa
not too well absorbed by Wall , street
shorts and New Orleans. The list slumped
8 to 14 points under last night's final
bids before midday, professionals being
among ths heaviest sellers. Pressure In
creased In the latter half of the session,
th markets resistance weakening until
values had dropped more than of
a cent under the preceding close. Late
buying power was too light to promote
recovery. Th maximum decline waa 15
to 27 points, with final bids at about
that level.
Spot markets were quiet, 15 points

the London bank rale would reduce th
reserve percental through expansion of

market waa steadier for nearby sugars
today, while later deliveries were un
changed. Spot and May shipment Cubas
now are quoted at 2c. cost and ireigm,
equal to 3.98o for centrifugal, while Porto
Rlcos were quoted at 3.86 for centrifugal.
Ther were sales early of 10,000 bags of
Cuhas sfioat at 2 ll-32c, cost, and frieght,
followed later by sales of 13,000 bags for
prompt and May shipment at 2c, all to
operators, while a local refiner purchased
47,000 bags of Porto Rlcos for late April
shipment with outport options at 3.860
and 15,000 afloat at 3.75c.
The raw sugar future market was easy
under scattered liquidation. Prices worked
off 3 to 4 points, but rallied on covering
and trade buying and closed 1 point low
er to 2 net higher. May, 2.44c; July,
2.67c; September, 2.86c; December, 2.91c.
The market for refined was quiet and
unchanged at 5.25c to 5.40c for fine gran
ulated.
There were sales of two Iota of May In
refined futures at 5.85c or unchanged
from the previous close. Final prices,
wer unchanged to 6 points net lower.
May, 6.89c; July, 6.05c; September, 6.26c
New York Coffee.
New York, April 20. There was some
further scattered realizing In the market
for coffee futures at the opening today,
and first prices were 8 points lower to
3 points higher. At 10.17o for May, and
9.69c for September, however, there was
renewed covering by near-montbs shorta
and a little trade buying of later de
liveries with prices later working up to
10.35c for May, and 9.85c for September,
or 10 to 20 points net higher. This rally
was, encouraged by rather a more favor
able view of European politics and re
ports of continued steadiness In the cost
and freight market, with the market
closing at net advance of 9 to 19 points.
Sales were estimated at about 46,000
bags. May, 10.34c; July, 10.17c; Septem
ber, 9.87c; October, 9.85c: December and
January, 9.81c; March, 9.80c.
