mother. "And he would find you.
And he would jump at you."
"I'd run away from him then,"
said Nimbly stoutly.
Hi mother shook her head.
"You're spry for your age. Hut
you're to slow to escape a fox.
You're not quick enough (or that
vi'et. You don't know how quick
foxes are. So look out! Look out
for a sly fellow with a pointed nose
and a bushy tail!"
In spite of all these warnings,
Nimble didn't feel the least bit
alarmed. And the older he grew,
the less he heeded his mother's
words. He thought she was too

ing so much over your back tracks?"
"You should always know what's
behind you," said his mother. "Be
sides, I can't rest well if I'm un
easy." "Do you feel easy now?" he in
quired, for she had just then tain
down after giving her back tracks
her usual attention. ,
"Quite 1" said Nimblc's mother, as
she closed her eyes and heaved a
deep sigh of contentment.
Her answer pleased Nimble, He
smiled faintly as he watched her
closely. And he chuckled when his
mother's head nodded three times
and then sank lower and lower.
Presently Nimble rose to his feet,
without making the slightest rustle.
And very carefully he stole away.

A Silly Song

Kite Donahue was 21 about a
month ago, and Kate's, old steady,
Teleg Brown, his love for her to
show, sent to a city floral house,
and ordered them to ship a score
and one of roses, enclosing, on a
slip, a verse of poetry he wrote, in
which old Peleg said, '"I send a rose
to my own Rose, for every year
that's sped." When the florist got
this order from old Peleg Brown, he
beat it for the greenhouse and
mowed some roses down. Said he,
"this fellow, Peleg Brown, has spent
with me tnuch tin; to show ap
preciation 1 will throw a dozen in."
He threw the extra dozen in and
sealed the box up tight. Sail he,,
"I think I've treated old Peleg more
than right."' Kate counted up the
roses, and rcid old- Pelcg's v?rse,
and now old Pelcg's hiding from a
journey in a hearse.

Do you tell them enough of your
experiences that when similar cir
cumstanccs may arise later in their
own lives they will know something
upon which' to base their calcula
tions?
To some children the ideas and
aims of the parent arc a sealed book.
Of course it is just possible that
some parents have no definite
thoughts upon which to base their
own actions.
That is a bigger pity than vou can
guess. Mr. hather-of-a-ramilv.
Your boys will look back many
times, just as you do now, and say.
"I wonder what my father would
have done under like circumstances."
With your own father in mind, be
a better father to your boys.
It is a pretty tough thing to be
thrown upon the world entirely on
your own resources and have no
precedent upon which to base your
next move. . ' .
Think about this seriously, and
help your children to understand life
and its opportunities tbrough the
light that experience has given you.
Do not be hurt if they do not ac
cept your point of view apparently.
