Lincoln, Neb., was opened last Wednesday evening with a formal inhibition of eight body stjles of the new tpe 61 Cadillac. "In Fpite- of. the unfavorable weather.'" said J. H. Hansen, "crowds ' of people were present during the entire evening. The new building will enable us to gUe "better Cadillac service to owners of Lincoln and the South riatte, and the enthusiasm w ith which ow ners have received our announcement of new quarters spurs us on to greater effort in rendering Cadillac service. "Mr. Williams, the Lincoln mana ger, lias alw ays been- handicapped by inadequate facilities for conducting "a- business of the size of our Lincoln office, but now we are not only in position to serve our customers bet ter, but to do our own work more quickly and efficiently." The salesroom was beautifully dec orated for the opening and all the departments were open to inspection by the public. Chester Bowers Quits Buick to Handle Ford. Ford Dealers to Handle Lincoln Cars Chester A. Bowers recently gave tip his contract as retail distributor of Buick automobiles in Omaha and Council Bluffs to become associated with Mr. Blair in the Bowers-Blair Motor company, Ford agents in Council Bluffs. Bovvers became connected with the Nebraska Buick Automobile com pany in 1914 and during the past four years held the retail Buick contract lor Omaha and Council Bluffs. Mid OVy Motor Company -Optimistic Over Maxwell The Mid City Motor & Supply company, distributors of the good tyaxwcll in this territory, are very optimistic over sales prospects for the coming season. W. R. Huntington, in charge of re tail sales of the Maxwell, has the fol lowing to say regarding sales pros pects: "The fact that we have sold and delivered the number of good Max wells that we have since their intro duction to the buying public is very gratifying to me and proves conclu sively in my own mind that the pub lic is accepting this new car for what the factory intended it should he; the highest-class, low-priced four-cylinder car on the market. I find it a pleasure to demonstrate the car." -,. Throughout the Pacific coast states there is an automobile for every o. o New Detachable Motor Head I las Many Advantages Since the Lincoln first appeared on Omaha automobile row, almost a year ago, numerous model hm been sold and are being driven in Nebraika and western Iowa. Sa fir. accordinr to Bob Odell of Hannan-Ode II. Inc.. no road or hill has proved too much for this powerful car. A a result, it ia contended at the Hannan Odell headquarter that there is no hill too teep for the Lincoln, but ii anyone knows of a hill which they would like to try, a letter to the Hannan-Odell Co. will bring a car to try it out The Lincoln Motor company, re cently purchased by Henry and Hd- scl lord in association with Henry and Wilfred LeUnd, has announced definitely the future sales and sen ice policy. Hannan-Odc!!. Inc., will remain Lincoln distributors in Omaha and will continue to operate ils retail de partment, maintaining the central service station for Omaha at its pres ent location, and Mr. Od-ll states that arrangements aie now being made for a similar service station in Council Bluffs. It is understood that these two service stations will be ex ceptionally complete and that pol icies and methods will be Inaugu rated that heretofore ownris of high grade motor cars have not enjoyed. The authorised I'oid dealers of Omaha and Council Bluffs will act as retail dealers for Lincoln motor cars, carrying a stock of cars for sales, display and demonstrations. The dealers will be permitted to sell Lincoln motor cars under the same 0 Ml Charles !Iinnan. Bob Odell. territory' arrangements now existing in the Ford dealer's franchise, 'l itis eliminates territory lines and really makes all territories open. ' Arrangements are now being made for complete service in all prom inent territory towns and this will mean that everv Lincoln owner will have available, very shortly, service and maintenance from Ford dealers located in these towns. Already some of these dealers have arranged lo employ an expert factory trained superintendent for Lincoln service. ' The newly established selling prices just announced show reduc tions ranging from $WO to $I,2(M). Another point which is cmpha t'ircd by the officials is that the com pany will continue ils policy of not having so-called yearly models. This policy, it is claimed, insures the car purchaser against uiulue depreciation in the resale value of his car. It is also asserted that inasmuch as the present eminently fine mechanism of Ihe Lincoln car was thoroughly de veloped before it was marketed at all, there is nothing in the line of changes under cousideralion. Villi Saintf Claire Poign rrofnU Carbon AtTumul . Hon and TermiU Ac ' ccibility. Theories involved in the question of detachable versus non-detachable cylinder heads in motor car construc tion are of interest to the car owner. I'ven though lie may never attempt actual maintenance work on hi car, such as removal 0 carbon deposits within the cylinder and the grinding of valves, lie will appreciate knowing how and why the non-detachable head was selected for the' Wills bainte Claire. C. Harold Wilts, designer and buider of the Wiils Sainte Claire car, is credited with being the first eneinecr to design and manufacture the detachable head type of cylinder block, 1 practice which later became universal m the automotive maus trv. 1 1 Mr. Wills realized that the remov able feature did not eliminate the nuisance of carbon deposits, but was merely a means to facilitate its ree- moval lie knew that if he could 1 preclude the possibility of carbon ac i ...imi.t.. ,! m. a.-i n !l 1 . n .4 n , urn lUlllUIHIlUK fU3. iu b "w ..v time simplify and accelerate the oper ation of cleaning carbon and grind ing valves tie would achieve a dou ble victory, lie also know that particularly weak point in 'he de tachable head design was the tact that after the valves were once "ground in" to a perfect seating in the cyclindcr, the scats would, as soon as subjected to heat, be dis torted out of shape by the tension to which the adjacent hold-down bolls would be drawn down in making an effective seal between the head and the cylinder block. Naturally with the solid head, the valve seat never changes shape after once ground in. Valve grinding and the cleaning of carbon, although seldom necessary tor reasons outlined above, has neon made a pleasure. In the Wills Sainte Claire the actual work is done with the clyinder block complete on the bench instead ot by the back breakinir process of Icanine over the front fenders, which usually termi nates in badly scratched enamel. Time study has shown that the labor can be performed more easily and with greater dispatch than is cus tomarily experienced in the same op erations of any olher type of engine.
