the senate territories committee 'lur
ing a hearing on bill to consolidate
governmental activities in Alaska.
In testifying as to detail con
nected with the govcrnment'i tir
clae of the Tanana Mine rail
road. Mr. Ballaine made Makmmts
which Mr. Joalin. who had con
tructrd a part of the railroad, chal
lenged and Ihainnan New had dif
ficulty in restoring order.
Attorney General Kustgird of
AJafcka presented arguments in sup
port of the New bill, which propose
to consolidate government uureaus
in Alaska under the interior depart
ment.' J!e emphasized the impor
tance of establishing steamship com
munication under the bill between
the terminal of the Alaska railroad
and a Pacific port in the United
States, asserting present facilities
were inadequate.
The controversy arose over. Jos
lin's resentment of Iiallaine'a asser
tion that he had obtained from the
government for Joslin's railroad, a
value in excess of its cost. Mr.
Joslin asserted that the railroad lor
which the government paid $300,000

according to announcement made by
Leo Stuhr of the state department of
agriculture. The service was in
augurated last Monday.
Mr. Stuhr does imt know how
many towns arc "sitting in" on the
report. The David City Farm bu
reau and flie Kratrire bureau is get
ting the wireless report. Under
favorable condition the report can
be received at any point in the state,
Mr. Stuhr says.

Unite to Get Dairy Cows

The bankers association of Hamil
ton county and the Aurora Kotary
club have joined in boosting the
dairy business for this county. The
joint committee of the two organiza
tions outlncd a program. It is pro
posed to get a number of farmers
together and consider plans for
bringing dairy cattle into the county
from the cast.
