Chadron Man Guilty Of Killing His Wife Sioux Falls, S. D., Oct. 28. (Spe cial Telegram.) A jury in the Cus ter county circuit court, after a sensa tional trial lasting1 10 days, returned a verdict of second degree man. slaughter against Joseph Focrtsch foi , having shot and killed his wife on her ranch near Fairburn last July, The couple had separated and the murder resulted from a family feud Foertsch had been living at Chadron, Neb., and he made the trip from ' there to the ranch of his wife to commit the crime. He was captured by a posse of forest rangers and ranchers while hiding in the Black Hills following1 the tragedy. Eighty-five jurors were summoned and examined before the 12 who sat on the case were selected. The testimony of 25 witnesses was taken. Judge William Miser, who presided, has not yet imposed sen tence. Two Dodge County Towns To Observe Armistice Day Fremont. Neb.. Oct 28. (Special.) Dodge company will celebrate Ar mistice day with ceremonies in two cities. Legionaires of this city will unveil a $5,000 monument to the hero dead and Hooper; will celebrate with a big round of pleasure. The mer chants of. Hooper will bless some lucky home with a touring car and the Legion post of that city will also hand over a car.'; . Foot bail games, dancing, free attractions and a big parade will take part in the Hooper celebration. Whittaker is beirjg v held here on 'orders of State Fire Warden C. E. Hartford for inves tigation in connection with a fire in the Dr. Clark tenement house. Oil soaked rags were found in the house. Whittaker was found outside the house apparently .overcome by . smoke. He was completely dressed. He recently sent his family away and had his own clothing packed in suit cases. He carried $1,000 insurance on his household goods. Fremont Sales Pavilion K Is Opened by Cattlemen Fremont. Neb.. Oct. 28. (Special.) " Fremont's live stock sales pavilion was officially opened here with the first sale which netted an average of $110 on 40 graded Holstein cows, four pure-bred bulls and nine calves.. The pavilion answers a long felt want in Fremont and is operated by prom inent citizens who financed the erec tion of the building. The Midland Farms, owned by E. M. Little and F. E. Pratt, conducted the sale, which was one of the most successful held here in years and establishes a new -high average for stock sales in this vicinity.
