New York Cotton. ' '
New Tork, Oct. 26. The cotton market
underwent a reaction today, recovered
somewhat, but failed to maintain Its re
covery and closing price were- about the
lowest of the session, 88 to: 68 points
under Tuesday's cioae. -
Th reaction, manifest!; Itself early,
waa from natural technical causes re
flecting "long" selling after yesterday's
harp upward movement, less apprehen
sion over the weather situation and re
ports that the south was offering a little
more freely. The morning decline carried
the active list about 20 to 25 points under
last night's close.
Th market recovered five to 10 points
In the second hour, with a ' little short
covering. Business was quiet, all thing
considered, and new interest was light.
ina nia.ra.rt uiu ocuer aunng me early
afternoon, but waa unable to hold its
recovery in the face of liquidation from i
western Interests and the uptown element
and all months declined about half a cent
a pound to pew levels tor tha day In the
last hour. -
