THE BEE: OMAHA, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3, 1921. Boosters Trim Buffaloes in First Game of Series Griffin Gets Homer 1U Pott Outpitches Burch, Winning Over Omaha, 2-1 O'Connor Swings Wicked Bat For Des Moines, Knocking Out Home Run and Single. Des Moines, la., Aug. 2. (Spe cial Telegram.) "Lefty" Pott pitched Des Moines to a 2-to-l vie tory in the first game of the Omaha series today. The local southpaw held the opposition to i avviu n iulij avai ls 3 . a u:,. ..i .....i i fX have had a shutout INDOOR SPORTS mi-muri-i s. Drawn for The Bee by Tad r L victory to his credit had he been able to turn back "Pug" Griffin in the ninth. Pitching against Pott was Barney Burch, half owner and manager of the Buffaloes. Burch did not appear to have anything but a whispered supplication on each ball that he dished up to the plate, but he must have had something for the Boosters were able to find him lor only six hits. The Omaha man ager is some mixer for he knew ex actly how to serve what he had to the best advantage and made mon keys out of the home crew most of the way. Twice the Boosters clogged the bags and both times they were un able to count, although there was only one out the second time the sacks were loaded. The Coffey gang scored its first run in the third when Dick O'Coit ner lifted the ball over the right field fence. The other run came in the seventh on singles by Pott and O'Conncr, Grant's sacrifice and Brown's sacrifice fly. Griffin, the second man up in the ninth, counted in Omaha's lone tally with a long drive over the left-field fence. In onlv one other inning did the visi tor -each third, that being in the fir. when with one out Ilancy doubled and advanced on an infield out. The Nebraskans reached sec ond base frequently, however, but Pott's brand of pitching was too much for them to solve in the pinch es. Unly a hanclttil ot spectators saw the game, which was played in one hour and 1J minutes. W AinftouGrtfr- - go to ft PAR.W vMWmi W' MJ nobodvwome; k wtme wm&?' WM-mfmw, " 10 5eu5NDr afto.
