Firm in Vienna 4 C Used Car Sale Company to Place Purchase of Second-Hand Machines On Same Basis as Buy ing of New Car. Too long have motor car manufac turers closed their eyes to the need of raising the standard in used car buying. "This has resulted," says Edward S. Jordan, "in a deplorable lack of confidence on the part of the public in buying used cars. This need for a definite stand regarding .the used car situation, has led us to announce to the public a used car policy which will be national in its effect and will operate through every Jordan dis tributor throughout the United States. Buyer On New Basts. "This policy considers the used car buyer in the same light that wc do the buver of a new car. Many who have hitherto hesitated to buy a used car for lack of confidence m the or ganization selling it, can now go in to a Jordan distributor and buy a car with the same trust whtcn pur chasers of Jordan cars know. "While startling in its bread fun damental understanding of the needs of motor car buying, this policy is but a forerunner of what will be the ultirnate attitude of all good manu facturers. Plan 10-Day Sale. "In announcing this policy, the Jordan Motor Car company, through Its many distributors, is conducting a 10-day used car sale in which the value, the service ana tne general condition of the car is pledged to be exactly as represented. Cadillac Leading Sales In New York Territory Figures recently compiled in New York show that the sales of the Ca dillac during four consecutive months early this year were greatly in ex cess of even cars selling for con siderably less. The total number of Cadillacs sold in the metropolitan territory in the period covered was 278. Among the quality cars the second car on the list (which embraced two different types) showed 216. Metallurgical Department Is Maintained at Plant for Last 12 Years. As a part of their policy to be completely responsible for the manu facture of their product, the Peerless Motor Car company has maintained for 12 years its own metallurgical de partment and heat-treating plant. . When this department was first organized, the best-known steels of England, France, Germany, Austria, Holland, Belgium and the United States were completely analyzed and subjected to various tests before selection was made of those steels best fitted to meet the requirements necessitated by the performance ex pected of Peerless cars. It took this company five years of intensive re search work to analyze and test the better steels on the market at that time, and since then every other steel subsequently developed has had the same careful analysis. This means that the Peerless Mo tor Car company has on file statis tics concerning practically every known grade of steel, and their files will show the results of approxi mately 1,100,000 tests made. This exact knowledge not only enables the Peerless company to determine the advantages or disadvantages of each steel under varying conditions, but al lows it to decide on specifications for the chassis wherein the ratio of weight to performance requirements and strength of materials is scienti fically correct.
