Banks Weather Run
Boston, July 30. Several persons
influenced, the police say by malici
oui propaganda, were in line to
withdraw their deposits from the
Boston Five Cents Savings bank,
when the doora of that institution
opened today, continuing a run
which began in mild form yester
day. Some of the depositors had been
in front of the bank since 1 a. m.
waiting' to take out their money
notwithstanding, reassuring state
ments issued by the bank commis
sioner, declaring the bank absolutely
sound.
Philadelphia, July 30. The North
western Trust company, an uptown
institution, today weathered a run
that began yesterday. A false rumor
of the trust company's condition
started a line of timid depositors
yesterday, and caused many to
withdraw funds today. When the
bank opened this morning $1,0(10,1)00
in cash was on hand to pay all demands.

French and British
Tension Has Lessened
London, July 30. (By The Asso
ciated Press.) The tension be
tween Great Britain and France over
the procedure to be followed in set
tling the upper Silesia problem has
materially lessened, British officials
declared this morning.
Alleviation of the situation is un
derstood to have come with intima
tions by the French of their willing
ness to waive the immediate dis
patch of troops to Silesia, provided
Great Britain associates itself with
France in a demand on Germany
for facilities for their passage,
should the supreme council deem
such a movement necessary. The
Berlin government has already de
clared its willingness to accecd to
such a demand by the supreme
council.
Hawaiian Fisheries Band
To Hunt Man-Eating Shark
San Francisco, July 30. Shark, the
plain, ordinary man-eating shark, and
other spfies of the shark which hab-
itate the Pacific, are to be utilized for
human needs, according to plans just
launched by business men of Hono
lulu. Details of the venture were made
public when a committee of three
arrived from the island the other
day seeking to purchase some of the
smaller craft now idle on the Pacific
coast.

various kinds of shark, and their
skins are said to have a high com
