They're still figuring how they escaped in a crash when their auto mobile plunged into a 20-foot ditch in Iowa Friday night. Julius K. Johnson, manager of the Rialto; Harry . Walts, manager-of the Strand, and Edwin Stevens, sec retary of the Omaha Musicians' union, were to hoid a conference with A. H. Blank in Des Moines Fri day night. They scoffed at steam transporta tion and decided to make the run in Johnson's car. They started about 3:30 p. m. and as darkness fell, came to a sharp right-angle fork in the road near Stuart,. Ia. Car Does Nose Dive. The headlights so played on the road, Johnson, who was driving, thought the car was headed for a ditch straight ahead. He swerved the front wheels in a sharp turn they were traveling about' 25 miles an hour and drove the car right off a 20-foot embankment. As the machine did a nose-dive, Watts riding in the front seat of the sedan, escaped unscratched; Johnson at the wheel got bumped about the head, while Stevens, all alone in the back seat, was so badly cut by flying glass he had to be taken to a Muart hospital where seven stitches were needed to .close the gashes. A Total Wreck. The car is a total wreck. The indomitable t'io hopped a train for Des Moines from stuart, conferred with Blank and rode the steam cars back to Omaha early yes terday morning. Tohnson says a husky block and t?.ckle will be needed to salvage his wrecked car from the ditch. men I OBiiW l In Otfi W 3 IWBOFfr OB llir I $1.00 Delivers Any Article Up to $50.00 THIS DOLLAR SALE ia an event of gigantic proportions, delivering to your home any article or articles worth up to $50.00 for only $1.00 down.
