happened to get cross-eyed and
start on the road to fame.
' "He was a juggler," said Watllc
"and used to juggle a cannon ball, a
rubber ball and a piece of cigaret pa
per. He was supposed to catch the
rubber ball on his neck and one
night made a mistake and caught the
cannon ball himself. He's been cross
eyed ever since.
Big Tom Woods, largest Elk in
the word, native of Eau Claire, Wis.,
and wielder of a wicked ukelele, who
weighs in around the 525-mark, is
playing again with Timmie Adams in
Adams' latest mirth-maker, "A Good
Scout." In addition to his other
claims to fame, Big Tom is known
for his prowess as a swimmer.
But then Big Tom cannot expect
all the attention. "Slim" Hamilton,
otherwise known as Mark Hamilton,
couldn't miss a retreat or a reveille
in the Boy Scouts' annual camping
trip depicted in the play. But his
faithful attendance is not the reason
the scout-"-";ter f'oes not have to go
to the trouble of having his name on
the roll. His presence is too notice
able, and if "Slim" tried to miss one
roll call, everybody would v ow
something was missing. "Slim" is
6 feet, 7 inches tall.

Tangle Over Lawful
Husband Is Settled
Hastings, Neby June 27. (Special
Telegram.)--In appointing Walter
M. Crow administrator of the $25,000
estate of Viola Fay Morris, who
was shot and killed in her apart
ments in Los Angeles, May 19, 1921,
Judge Turbyfill found specifically
that James H. Morris is the widower
of the murdered woman and as such
is entitled to the administration of
the estate.
Morris, however, filed a waiver as
to his own appointment and named
his counsel to act for him. The ob
jectors have filed instruments in evi
dence to show that Alice Morris,
the previous wife of James Morris,
did not obtain her divorce from
Morris until May 6, 1921. On the
other hand, the attorneys for Morris
filed a certified copy of a marriage
certificate which showed that Morris
and Viola Fay Morris were married
in Arizona in 1918.
Grand Island Woman Fined
For Her Assault on Grocer

sen, grocer, in the latter's store
room, nleaded euiltv and was fined
$50 anu costs.
Ihe assault was the result of the
connection of the woman s name
with a police officer and a petition
promulgated by Olsen for the re
moval of the officer in question and
two others. The officers make de
nial of many of the charges and al
lege that the movement is the out
growth of "peeve" over arrests made
for traffic violations.

Barn.
Matthew Bowers, 59, 3117 South
Eighteenth street, was murdered, ac
cording to a verdict returned Monday
by a coroner's jury which investi
gated. Bowers was found in the street car
barns at Twenty-fourth and Vinton
street Friday, unconscious and
bleeding from a wound in his throat
He died before he could tell how he
came by his wound.

His wife is in St. Joseph hospital
suffering from injuries received in an
alleged all-night party in Syndicate
park. Hopkins refused to answer
questions put to him Monday morn
ing by Police Judge Wappich re
garding the affair.
