MICHAELS Chicago Trlbnne-Omaha He Leased Wire. Chicago, June 15. Heaviness and lower prices featured the grain mar kets. Bad crop reports and rainy weather with floods in Kansas and Nebraska and a further decline in cash wheat, premiums were offset by local selling and liquidation and while the close was at a fair reaction from the inside prices there were net losses of 3'4c on wheat. Hlic on corn, (?4c on oats and 2V4 3 c on rye. Black rust reports from the winter wheat ir. Kansas and Nebraska are not taken seriously by the grain traders as the crop Is too far ad vanced to be seriously hurt. Nu merous reports of black rust came frpm South Dakota, but they failed to create enthusiasm among buyers, although tiiey tended to check sell ing by conservative local interests. The news and the market's action was not in accord and while part of the local operators were moderately bullish there was no good 'support at any time, the buying mainly cen tering among the local shorts, who covered on the bulge and reinstated their lines later at lower prices, Bains Are Reported. There were reports of U to 3 Inches of rain In Kansas. Hutchinson aent re ports of floods. The government weekly weatner crop bulletin was moderately fa vorable and made the trade more un certain as to which side of the market to take. . Cash premiums on wheat wars lowered to 13c and 15o over July for No. 1 hard winter and to-to 10c over for No. 1 red with the milling demand limited to 23,000 bushels. Southwestern markets were 2o to 6o lower. The seaboard claimed that yesterday's export sales were 2,000,000 bushels and 760,000 bushels today, ln- ciuuing euu.uuo ousneis to uermany, part cash and part 10 daya. Corn was under pressure from all classes of traders. Those who have be friended tha market let go and said the market as not acting right; Receipts keep up surprisingly, considering the re ports from the country of reduced offer ings. As to the latter some places are soiling, as one house bought 76,000 bush els to arrive. Top prices were 62e for July and 63 4io for September. Arrivals were 341 cars and cash prices l4c lower at the extreme with cash demand poor and sales 40,000 bushels domestic and 60,000 bushela to the seaboard with chartera for 240,000 bushela to Oeorglan bay. Pressure on Oats. Selling pressure on oats came from the leading local Interest in September, while the buying waa poor and prices declined to 38i4o for September and closed at 88c Crop reports were spotted and a good part of the oats sections would be helped by rains. Big stocks and a light outside apeculatlon were tha depressing factors. Rye met Increased selling by local if.., rl ('n't Purchases of wheat and a little by the country, while the buying waa by the seaboard on reporta of two cargoes being sold to Danzig. Nebraska Condition. -The Price Current Crop Reporter says that the presence of black rust In winter wheat in Nebraska Is not dangerous, but ths danger lies In the fact that while tto aprlng wheat north of this territory is early, black rust la also appearing early. Harvest in the southwest Is going ahead under favorable conditions. The spilng wheat acreage is slightly under that of a year go. By ALEXANDER DANA NOYES. Chicago Tribune-Omaha Beo Leased Wire. New York, June IS. Wall Street's attention was mostly, directed today to the violent break in certain indus trial stocks, but he much more im portant incidents in relation to the financial position generally occurred elsewhere than on the stock ex change. They included further re covery in sterling which brought for a time rates to a level at which one-third of the recent extreme de cline from the $4 rate wa3 canceled, and after the close of business, the announcement of a further reduction in the federal reserve bank's redis count rate. The 6 per cent rate fixed today for commercial oaoer by the New York reserve bank makes-a total re duction of 1 per cent within six weeks and it brings the rate back r the. flo-nr which orevailed be tween January 22 and June 1, 1920. At the first of those dates the bank's ratio of cash reserve loans notes was 38 ner cent: at the second date it was 40 1-4; last week the percentage reported was 64 1-4. Today's reduc tion, following that of May 4, from 61-2 to 6 is not, however, merely recognition of the statues of tho bank. Had that been the on,1y con sideration a 6 per cent rate or lower urnnlH have been fixed weeks ago: for the reserve percentage at New York has long been much nigncr than it was at any time in iyiy, throughout which year commercial rediscounts went at 4 3-4 per cent. Reason for Caution. u, .van with tha raoidly rising per centage in the cast it was necessary to consider both the state reserve districts In the west and south, snd ths General condition of the credit market. This Is why the steps In reducing official bank rates have been taken so cautiously, but tho same consideration lends distinct im portance to today's second reduction. It rar-nenittnn that the particular strain on credit is passing and that visible progress is being made, towara norm.. conditions. As In the case ol ine May reduction, the moral . Influence of today a announcement will be of great Importance. It was not foreshadowed oy any cnam. ir, inH.v', vr York market for time loana or commercial paper, the rate on both re maining to 1 per cent above the new rediscount rate. This discrepancy will hardly continue, however. The extravagantly violent attack which was made by professional speculators on half a dozen Industrial stocks today wib ivnin.i nt th rt of thing which Wall street Is nowadays presenting to the pub lic view. This demonstration occurreu nrlmarllv In shares of the oil production companies; It waa based entirely on over night dispatches trom .wasnmgiuii im porting In more or less conflicting detail ho judgment or certain expenn as w tho falling off in productiveness oj Mexico's oil wells. Results Disappointing, That rn.nl l in the Mexican field have been disappointing has long been known both in and out of Wall street. Today's 13-polnt fall in Mexican Petrol eum stock had the effect of breaking the price of other Industrial stocks of the same 'or a similnr description and some of the other declines were violent. But the day's changes were more than usually rregular; not a lew or mem wire mi advances. The railway shares agiin nein relatively strong. Northern Facinc stocic advanced, though the directors' decision to continue ther7 per cent dividend rate was not made public until me cione oi business and then with a somewhat equivocal explanation of it. New York Cotton. Nav York. June 15. The cotton mar ket waa very quiet again today. If any thing Liverpool was a Bhade better than due and private cables reported , a allghtiy more cheerful feeling in Manchester. There was scattered souinern seninn and some local liquidation promoted by rertnrts of an unsettled tone In the stock market and Improving weather in t tha western belt. Prir-fn turned easier after the publica tion of the weekly report indicating that the crop had made good progress on tho average. Dry Goods. Wear York .Tune 15.
