Insane Woman Mourns
Loss of Big "Fortune"
Fremont. Neb.. Mav 24. (Special
Telegram.) Mourning the loss of an
ethereal fortune of $60,000 which she
claims was due her from the estate
left by her father, and because of
other' queer actions" and statements,
Mrs. Minnie Nolan, about 75, wife of
J. W. Nolan of this city, 1 was a'd
judged demented before an insanity
board.
Mrs. Nolan was taken to the local
hospital a few days ago, but her
condition became so violent it was
necessary to transfer her to a spe
cial cell in the county jail. Her cries
throughout the entire night kept the
inmates' and attaches of the jail from
getting any sleep.
The husband filed a complaint of
insanity against her in 1916. but th;
board at tat time iound her to be
mentally normal. -
Mrs. Nolan tells of a fortune sue
says was left her by her father in
New York city years ago. Nolan
says he knows nothing about her al
leged fortune.
Mrs. JNolan claims that she can
remember when she attended a ball
given by President Grant and states
that the president and her father
were very good chums, she will be
transferred to the institution at L,in
coin.
Burglars Rifle Garages
And Elevator at Dubois
Pawnee City, Neb., May 24. (Spe
cial.) Burglars broke into the two
garages and the Farmers' Union ele
vator at Dubois, Neb., and rifled the
offices of the three places. At the
garages they attempted to open the
safes, but were unable to get to the
cash. Little loot was obtained.
Sheriff McClung was notified, but'
no definite trail has been established.

Italian Histologist Discovers

New York, May 24. It is leamei
from members of the faculty of the
college of physicians and surgeons
here that Prof. Giuseppe Paravicini,
histologist of the Institute of Milan,
while engaged in purely scientific
experiments, has discovered a
method . of embalming which sur
passes the secret lost art of the
Egyptians.
The Italian scientist has visited
New York and has presented some
of his findings to the college here,
which is a department of Columbia
university.
"If only one-half of what Profes'
sor Paravicini has apparently ac
complished turns out to be perma
nently true," declared Dr. Adolph
Elwyn, histoldgist of the New York
college, "his discovery will be one
of the greatest importance to the
progress of medical science."
Even outside scientific realms the
discovery has created widespread
interest. Only a short time ago
Professor Paravicini 'consented to
embalm the body of Cardinal Fer
rari' who was one of the foremost
and most popular prelates of the
Roman Catholic church in Italy.
It is believed that . the body of
the prelate will remain in a state of
perfect preservation as have those
of the ancient pharaohs, for thou
sands of years. There is this re
markable difference, however, that
while the royal mummies familiar to
all visitors to great "museums are
brown and shrunken, the new pro
cess preserves the natural contour
and color.

second hand store, were robbed. At
the bakery $4 in cash and several
cartons of cigarets were taken, and
from Stanton s store, twoevolvers,
several flashlights, several pairs of
shoes and a few tics were stolen.
Chief of Police Dillow believes that

Man Awarded $50 Damages
For Hurt in Auto Crash
Beatrice, Neb., May 24. (Special.)
The case of Green against Howe,
$10,000 personal damage suit for
injuries received in an auto accident,
came to an end in the district court
when : a jury returned a verdict of
$50 for the plaintiff. The case was1
hotly contested for several days in
court.
Leave for Encampment

will leave Monday for their annual
encampment at Lake Helen, near
Gothenburg, where they will spend

Paris, May 24. The "lovinj
doves" gown startled the thousands
at the race course at Long Champs.
It was the most original frock that
has been witnessed anywhere at any
time.
Mile. Spinelli, who apparently lies
awake nights scheming and planning
ne'w sensations, appeared in the pad
dock wearing a gown made up in a
perfect imitation of two doves, each
forming one side of the dress. The
wings, breasts and tails made up the
skirt, while the necks, crossing
around her waist, adorned the upper
part of her body.
The heads of the doves, artist
ically shaped, met just under the
wearer's throat in a delicate kiss.
Large collars of diamonds around
the necks of the birds kept the ar-.
tistic gown in position
A dove feather hat completed the
illusion, which was dubbed a "love
symphony in grey."
Mile. Spinelli was finaaly forced
to withdrawn from the paddock
where the horses on the way from
the stables to the course shied at
the unusual sight. The bird dress
easily monopolized the honors of
the day.
Peacock feather shoes were
launched by many mannikins as a
summer novelty in shoes. They
were quoted at $300 in the Place
Vendome. They are the simplest
foot gear imaginable, except that
each feather must be attached just
so and selected with a single "eye."
The bird's tail must be worn at
just the right angle instead of the
ordinary buckle, in order to be
fashionable. That is why, explain
the fashion-makers, that the shoes
are a bargain at $300.
The greatest controversy of the
day, and one that is setting fashion
able Paris at real odds, was the ques
tion of just where to draw the
line between riches and good taste.
Commencement Held
For Ogallala HigK
Ogallala, Neb., May 24. (Spe
cial.) Commencement exercises of
the Ogallala High school were held
in the Searle hall. The largest class
in the history of the High school,
numbering 20, was graduated. Schol
arships, were given to Miss Addie
Pound and Miss Gladys Esse.
The address of the evening was
given by Professor Schreves of the
Kearney State Normal.
The senior class play was given
on two nights at the Princess the
ater. Eight members of the class
under the direction of Miss McAr-
thur presented the play, "When Billy
Disappeared." The play proved to
be such a hit that the class intends
to present it at some of the nearby
towns.

Of Ice for Building Park

largest ice storage houses in th
west, and located on the Burlington
iust west of this citv. has sold this
year's ice crop to the Pacific Fruit
Express company ot Ugaen, utan.
There are two storage houses, each
with a capacity of 50,000 tons. x
Mr. Rawlins states that he pur
poses to use the entire amount re
ceived for the ice for the building of
a big amusement park, with lake for
boating, swimming pool and skating
pond.- Thousands of yards of sand
will be secured from the sea shore for
creating a real beach. Ten acres will
be excavated for the pond and a
canal cut from Indian Creek.

Community spirit in a very spirited
sense is possessing the people of two
towns that are but little over a mile
apart. The end aimed at is to give
real pleasure to all the people of this
section, with especial regard to those
living in the country.

The sister city, Blue Springs, will, on
next Saturday night, launch an inno
vation by giving free open air motion

Beatrice Man Attempts
Suicide by Taking Poison
- Beatrice, Neb.. May 24. (Spe
cial.) Theodore Skladany, old resi
dent of Beatrice, went on a rampage
at his home and before he was taken
in custody by Deputy Sheriff Schei
deler he had swallowed poison. He
was hurried to the county jail where
Dr. Roe, city physician, administer
ed an antidote. It is though he will
recover. Skladany was up before the
insanity board some years ago when
he made an attempt upon his life.
He is about 63 years old and has a
large family.

In Western Nebraska Dies

merly of Banner county, where ho
lived for 31 years as one of western
Nebraska's earliest pioneers, died
yesterday in Scottsbluff, which has ,
been his home for the past year.
He is survived by his widow and
