Hearings of railroad brotherhood before the state railway commission on appeals to that body for lights on all railroad switchstands and pilots on light engines running outside of local yards were concluded today. At the request of the brotherhoods, the commission delayed hearings on appeals for three brakenien in switch yards where main line trains are made up and broken, and on trains consisting of 50 or more cars. Attorneys asked Harry Ford, rep resenting the brotherhood, if it were not a fact that orders came from na tional brotherhood headquarters to bring these appeals before the rail way commission. Ford declined to answer. "I just wanted to show that some of the leaders in the Plumb plan ownership proposition who have rep resented to federal authorities that there is a great waste in railroad operation are themselves seeking to create more waste by forcing the rail roads to employ more men than are needed," said Attorney Dressier of the Northwestern. Hordes of Crows Ravaging Poultry Yards at Geneva Geneva, Neb., May 10. (Special.) Hordes of crows are causing a loss to poultry yards in this county. Near Geneva, especially along Turkey creek, a large number of chickens have been taken and carried to the nests where the fledglings are fed on the young poultry. Chicks weighing a quarter of a pound have been seized by the carnivorous birds. Crows do some damage here every year but this spring they have appeared in larger numbers than ever before and the menace to young chickens is so great that farmers are using their guns constantly to thin out the rob bers.
