Is a servant less six-room apartment, with a full sized family, really compatible with an eight-hour day for the modern housewife? They say so, but have you ever seen a house actually . equipped for this program? In' a new "Apartment Electric" in Jackson Heights, Long Island, hundreds of women are having their first real machine, violet ray apparatus, com bination boudoir iron and curling iron, radiant heater, hair dryer. Nursery Miniature electric heat ing pad, baby milk warmer, toy elec tric range, electrically heated toy steam engine, electric trains, nursery table lamp. The Electric Life. Small wonder that the housewife who presides over the kitchen rc- the radiant heater for chilly morn ings; the warming pad for aches and pains; the hair drytfr; the vibrator; the curling iron;, the boudoir iron, and the violet ray outfit Even these, the housewife iinds, are important time savers did she not, before, she acquired the hair dryer, sit for an hour in the sun to dry' her hair, and spend many vexatious minutes in heating her old curling iron? put them in the children's lunch box. 1 r Specials for Saturday Selling That Are Real Values Young Small Lean Fig Pork Loin Roast, per lb 26 Fresh Dressed Stewing Chickens, per lb. 22d Pig Pork Spareribs, per lb H glimpse of what a home may he, Best Cuts Fancy Steer Pot Roast, lb Lean Pig Pork Roast, per lb lG'.i Dold's Lean, Narrow Breakfast Bacon, per lb 28Vi Prime Rolled Rib Roast, per lb 27 'At Fancy Fresh Dressed Younir Hens, per lb 32 Mt Fancy Young Veal Roast, per lb. 17& v I X p v .4 I 7 1 J I 1 Sv , . - w here' electricity not only does the hulk of the hoiiM'work, but also has iis part in nuking the "play" hours mure enjoyable. California has exhibited five of them within the last yiar, which wire visited by more ihan 150,000 nuff and women. Tli-1 purpose is purely educational to jrcscnt to the housekeeper and home maker a model toward which to work, if she w ishes to place her home line with modern standards of ef ficiency and livableness. 'There arc six rooms kitchen, dining room, living room, two bedrooms pud a nursery. Merely to list the ' electrical labor-savers and conveni- A lices in these rooms, there are: Kitchen Electrical range, elec tric tireless cooker, dishwasher, cake mi.er, iceless refrigerator, washing machine, iron and fan. (Vacuum cleaner in kitchen closet.) Dining Room Electric percolator, toaster, chafing dish, ovenette, wafile iron, grill, egg beater and mixer. Living Room Electric player piano, electric phonograph, table and t oot lamps and fan. ... - . Front Bedroom Electric heating v-pad, vibrator, curling iron, radiant 1 heater, bedsjde lamp. Rear Bedroom Electric sewing gards it as the jewel of the apart ment. At the electric range meals are prepared over a "clean" heat, soolless, smell-less. After each meal she stacks the dishes in the electric dishwasher, washing them only once a day, after breakfast, when the ma chine itsejf docs the washing and drying in a few minutes. If there are foods to be cooked for dinner whudi take a long time, she places them in the electric lireless cooker, connects it with the electric socket, I puts on her hat and goes visiting j she knows the automatic stop will cut off the current as soon as the required heat is developed. Then she has her electric clothes washer, which in two hours does what the laundress required five hours to do. Time Savers and Whatnot. In the dining room, percolator, toaster, wattle iron and chafing dish are all at hand to assist her in pre paring a complete meal right at the table. Most interesting, perhaps, is the dining table itself, which is wired with four outlets under the table edge near the place where the hostess sits. In this way she easily con nects and disconnects the various appliances at her hand instead of having to reach up to the ceiling fixture or over to a wall outlet. The table connection is made; through the floor. The living room is where elec tricity adds, perhaps, most to the jo? of her social or "play" hours. Here mellow lamps create the home at mosphere and the music of phono graph and piano, electrically oper ated, is enjoyed without the labor of pumping pedals or winding up. Convenient wall outlets receive the plugs for samovar and toaster jyhen.., the tea table is brought in tor the afternoon guests. The complete electrical equipment of the bedroom, of course, includes Preserve Steel It is time for skates, sleds and winter sport toys which really never had a chance this year, to be put away. Before doing so it would be well to anticipate that day'next win ter when the same will be brought forth with delight. Rust may be guarded against by coating the steel parts with plain lard which has no salt or water in it. .This should be mixed with powdered black lead and a little camphor gum. It will really save a great deal of labor for that day when rust might coat the metal. To clean zinc use hot vinegar, or whiting moist with wcrosine.
