Stag Parties of
Chicago Bring
Much Criticism!
President of Church Fedcraj
tion Launches Sting Attack
At Social Life of Windy
Ciy.
Chicago, April 28. Denouncing
Chicago as the twentieth century "
"Sodom" and rapping "Aphrodite"
stag parties as given by men promi
nent in business and social circles,
Rev. Howard Agnew Jonson, presi
dent of the Chicago Church Federa
tion in a full page, signed editorial,
hunched a stinging attack on thea
ters, movies and morals. The state
ment appealed in the May issue ot"
the Church Federation Bulletin.
The statement deals particularly
with the productions of "Aphrodite" -and
"Mecca" and calls upon Chicago
business and social leaders to band
together against an "insinuating
leprosy" which is making Chicago
another Sodom.
"Steadilv the moral tone of the
theatrical performaces, including
moving- pictures, has been declining
in this country," says Rev. Mr. Jon
son in his statement. "Nothing now
commands special attention unless it
is suggestive of the sex hue.
"In recent wccls there have been
stag parties, often called 'Aphrodite
parties,' supported and attended by
men supposed to be accent citizens .
where dancing women i performed
and then solicited the men present.
Should the names of these men be
nnhlished it would be to their dis
comfort and to the astonishment of
some of their friends. We have the
dates, places and names in our of
fice." '
