Even in wealthy residences that is the time when the household business for the day must be vafranged, and, in more modest homes the morning hours have a hundred duties demanding the atten tion of the "lady .of the house." On the other hand, business and charity calls are not to- be made dur . ing the afternoon, which is usually ' reserved for social visiting, club meetings, matinees, etc It is true that a ca'l on charitv of club busi ness is often semi-social in character, nevertheless,, since it is business of a sort, it belongs to the forenoon program. Such a call should have been previously arranged by note or telephone; the "surprise visit," not an unmixed delight at any time, is es- pecially awkward during a morning , crowded with scheduled duties. Even when the morning call is made by appointment, k should be as brief as ' possibl(t,-in duration, not, more than 15 .minutes at the most. (Caprrlett. (Special Correspond ence.) Fashion may be said to be flouncing in. Over all areas of sum mer clothes we see this detail em phasized. The Madeleines are par ticularly insistent, and among .he various foreign modes which are be inb reviewed by us at present their frocks 'and capes and even suits are frequently marked by the use of the flounce. What is more, the Made leine flounce is often cut circular. On the smartest of little gingham frocks worn at the southern resorts this winter the skirts are frequently trimmed with plaited flounces of self material. Such little gingham frocks usuallt disdained the familiar serv ices of organdy and other contrasting materials, and the sash as well as sleeve and neck finish was of self material. - ; . ' This system was one followed in the above charming morning dress worn by a prominent society woman. Life is a voyage.
