Play School for Deaf
Creighton High school's base ball
team will crack open the 1921 season
Friday afternoon on the Creighton
field when it meets the- Iowa School
for the Deaf. Saturday Creighton
mixes with the Christ Child club,
last year's Class "C" winners of
the city league.
- A meeting of the Creighton High
athletes will be held Friday evening
to elect a captain. Among those
mentioned for the position are Smith,
Daily and Redmond.

The Commerce High diamond
crew easily shut out the Iowa Deaf
Institute Wednesday . afternoon at
Thirty-second and Dewey avenue in
six frames, 14 to 0. The game was
called on account of darkness.
Drummond started "Cozy" Pierce
on the mound, and he blanked the
Iowans .for three innings without
issuing a pass, giving but three hits.
He was in a tight place in the third
when the first man up knocked a
double, followed by a single. The
next three deaf lads flied out, and
lost their only chance of scoring.
C Hagen hurled classy ball for
the Deaf Institute, but his team
mates made many errors.

day. Charles Logan, a laborer,
was arrested by a detective, who
declared Logan placed a bet on

house Wednesday voted to con
cur in the senate amendment to
the boxing bill permitting a
charge of more thin $1 (or ex
hibitions. The bill now goes to
the governor for approval.
Charley Pesek Loses
To Owen Daily in
Two Straight Falls
Minden, Neb., April 21. (Special.)
Owen Daily, the Kearney county
wrestler, defeated another aspirant to
welterweight honors last night at the
Minden auditorium, winning two
straight falls from Charley Pesck of
Buffalo county.
In the first preliminary, Gus Wag
ner and Henry Arcnt, two Minden
boys, put on the gloves, Wagner
winning by a knockout in the third
round. 1 he second preliminary was
a wrestling bout between Carl Niel
sen and Tom Cavanaugh, both of
Minden, going 20 minutes to a draw.
The third was another wrestling
bout, Charles Foulson winning from
Ed Larsen,
. The fourth prelim was a boxing
bout between two Minden boys, Har
old Jinnings and "Kid" Hawkinson.
Hawkinson got the decision on points
at the end of four rounds.
In the first fall of the principal
event, Daily won in one hour and five
minutes, with a bar arm and body
scissors. He won the second fall with
a hammerlock, in 36 minutes.
After the match it was announced
that a letter had been received from
Champ Olson of Missouri, who was
defeated by Daily here about a week
ago. Olson expressed his desire to
meet Daily here, again, and the date
has been set for Wednesday,
April 27.

It was Hofman's throw from cen
ter to Johnny Evers at second base
in 1908 that forced Merklc of the
Giants, causing the game, which
was for the pennant, to end in a
tie. The Cubs defeated the Giants
in the playoff, winniiify the title.

12th annual Drake relays will start
