Trial of Peterson j Claims Against Brothers Opens j Turkey Outlined Omahans Charged With False Demands for Damages to Pretense in Buying American Interests Laid Merchandise. Fremont, Neb.. March 22. (Spe cial.) Three Peterson brothers, Victor, Theodore and Gilbert, of Valley and Omaha, went on trial this afternoon in the district court, charged with false pretense. Some time ago the brothers pur chased large orders of goods from local merchants amounting to about $1,700. It was learned later that some of the merchandise had bee'i sold to other dealers for a much lower price. The victims allege that although the goods were sold on 30 days time, the young men had schemed to get some ready money in this manner and then skip the country. Their dealings became suspicious when they purchased automobile tires from six different tire concerns in this city, all ' supposed to be for the :ame car. The merchants allege that the Peterson trio presented weird tales of riches to come from huge land deals that would mater ialize within 30 days and that they could then settle their bills. In the opening statement made to the jury, attorney for the defense ex plained that the boys were "hard up" ?nd bought and sold the goods in order to tide them over a strin gent period. As soon as the date of payment fell due, the attorney ctated. the bills would have bee;i paid. Testimony was taken from H. W. Buller, tire dealer, this af ternoon, bearing out the complaint of 'he state. Lower Tarif Schedule Urged by Senator Edge Xew York, March 22.
